If you see me running try to keep up |
Yep, it’s hard finding anything new. Ammo is even harder to find. There are no conspiracies- it’s simple supply and demand.

no offense, but have you been living under a rock? in Va alone, Nov, Dem controlled state house, resulting in every gun law imaginable attempted to be passed, AR's high cap handguns etc flew off the shelf, including ammo, then when that panic subsided (and thankfully, the majority of the laws not passed) the Woo Flu/Covid/beer flu etc happened, so, every one that hoarded Toilet Paper and lysol panicked and decided they needed a self defense gun, so the handguns (except kimber,,,,,) and self defense type shotguns took off again, (and ammo) then, when things started to get just a tad bit calm, the protests started and it started again, so , to recap, Northam is an idiot, gun owners bought stuff, wooflu, lots of first time buyers, and a lot of Asians, bought stuff proteste, lots more first time buyers, and a lot of Black folks, bought stuff, and no one is selling like they used to , or if they are it is to family or friends, also remember, on July 1 Va starts UBC's, so folks have been selling a lot thru private sales vs selling to retailers, https://chandlersfirearms.com/chesterfield-armament/

I went to two different Academy stores last week and the gun counters were nearly bare . Ammo was picked over too . No shotgun shells unless you want birdshot .

It's not just demand though. The supply lines have been seriously messed with so it's hard for the stores to even get stuff let alone then keep it in stock.

The guy behind the guy |
I've been noticing Cabela's carrying less and less semiautomatic rifles. This started happening well before COVID. I've been wondering about this for a while. less semi's and more bolt/"hunting" guns.

Everyone has made a run on firearms because of the current retardation and the fact that it's an election year. Also, most people got a stimulus check and I know a lot of people that purchased a firearm with it. I bought a CMP M1 Garand with mine. We will have another glut of used firearms and ammo a year or two from now once Trump is reelected. My guess is that sell more hunting rifles than ARs. I don't know who would buy an AR from a big box type outdoor store.

We have one Cabela's, in Charleston. I have not been there yet (but have been meaning to stop by). However, I did stop by a LGS in Hurricane last week. To my surprise, the cases were full and there was a nice selection to be found of handguns, rifles, and shotguns. ARs and defense shotguns were pretty slim pickings. I was shocked to be able to find and buy .22LR ammo for a Precision Rimfire match I shot over the weekend. In fact, I'll probably end up buying a Ruger Precision Rimfire rifle at that very same LGS this week. They had a few in stock.

The inventory at the Gun Library at my local Cabela's here in Wisconsin has been steadily declining since the Bass Pro Shops merger, but it is at an all-time low now.

Last week I turned in some Calaba's points and walked out with a silver Henry lever action 22. The guy at the counter said I was lucky they had one in stock - they're having trouble getting orders fulfilled most orders were taking at least 8 weeks. They had only a few handguns and almost no ammo.

The only SD ammo my local Scheels had a week ago was 10mm. __________________________

Cabelas used to be a nice place. Since the merger with Bass Pro shops it has gone downhill. The shortage of ammo and guns is another matter that goes beyond Cabelas.

Actually, WV has 2 Cabela's stores.....the South Charleston one and the original WV one in Wheeling. The Wheeling store is the full footprint Cabela's standalone building with two levels and an extensive mount display in the store. Not sure its worth the trip up from Charleston by itself, but if you are ever running up to the north west panhandle its worth a stop by.

It is a good store, I try to go down every month or so. Was down there last weekend, they did have some guns. I got a chance to look at the Shadow Systems MR920 Elite. Best part, my Boston Terrier "Bullitt" gets to come along. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tomorrow's battle is won during today's practice.

Just today I was at a local gun store to transfer a revolver after a private sale. I was in total amazement. The place was picked clean. All they had left was Uncle Mikes holster, a few used long guns and some over price "collectible" guns. I thought why even have the store open. Its has to cost more to keep the lights on than any sales they could make.

Ventured out to an LGS this morning; lots of stock on hand to include ARs, and SD and duty sidearms. A few uppers and lowers, lots of older hunting firearms (I left the nice 20 gauge Browning auto 5 there). Ammo available though it may not have been your first choice. May go out to Cabela's (Gainesville) later this week.

Just because the shelves are empty doesn't mean they aren't making sales. I was talking to the owner of one of my local stores who said they are still getting new guns in, they are just all pre-sold so they never make it onto the shelves.

That was kind of my reaction, extended to, why anyone would buy ANY gun from a big box store, particularly in my area, where there are more established gun stores, whose inventory seems unaffected. I guess many are first time buyers, who are used to buying things they need from big box stores. The fact that the Gun Library was so depleted still makes me wonder as to something going on here aside from supply and demand. Who in a time of COVID-19 and political unrest, buys a collectible Smith or Colt ?

Who Woulda Ever Thought? |
It's the same with Academy Sports. Looks like the third day of a going out of business sale.
