Trump was not my guy in the primaries, but the November general election is still a no-brainier for me. Trump has numerous shortcomings but he is a billion times more palatable than HRC. I'm beyond 99.9999999999999% sure that HRC is unfit for office and would do everything 180 degrees the opposite of my core beliefs.

domcintosh, would you have Hillary as President? That's all I want to know.
No.
So, what should happen on election day? Anything at all? I ask this because you don't want Clinton and you don't want Trump and seem unwilling to decide between the two.
I'm at a rhetorical loss; this election cycle is horrid.

The prominent options are life long corruption, intentional mishandling of classified material, and democratic progressive, or authoritative, big government, Constitution destroying, petty demagogue. Each is practically a caricature of the worst accusations thrown by the opposing side.

A Hillary Clinton win stuffs SCOTUS for the next 30 years, as well as the junior benches, escalates Obama's attacks on State sovereignty, and likely means another round of BRAC.

Simultaneously, what good can be expected from Donald Trump? He's surrounded himself with incompetence, there's zero assurance he'd be able to get strong candidates for SCOTUS, (Prior Republicans actively intended to do so, and barely batted .400), has the barest understanding of any policy he talks on, and actively attacks the Constitutional Limitations.

Every time I get close to thinking I can hold my nose and vote against Hillary by choosing him, his campaign does something extremely retarded. They always seem to take the most destructive option to the problems the campaign faces, on the level of C4 versus a flyswatter.

Why they invited Ted Cruz is beyond me. Why they maintained the invitation after he made it clear he wouldn't explicitly endorse Trump is even more bizarre. With the public release of his appearance, and full fore knowledge of the speech, they could have played it better, as I hinted above. Instead, they took Hardest path.

Imagine the long term damage to Constitutional values if he becomes the face of conservatism.

Whatever you do in the USN, I hope it is not life or death. I appreciate your service but would not want you at a rhetorical loss. Razz
See, me boy, that is where we are rapidly approaching, life or death.

Related to last night's convention speeches. Have you seen where some twatwaffle pulled a still from the video of Laura Ingraham saying goodbye to the convention crowd--catching her in a nazi-like salute for a brief instant. The Left is going T O berserk about it, this in spite of the fact that it's easy to pull a still from a video and catch anyone (like HRC) in a salute like that. Morons

I'll revive and claim TK-421, who had a reputation for being away from his post even before Han clocked him, because he was allegedly always hanging out with TK-420.

I, of course, as TK-421 2.0, would never leave my post, or let Han clock me.

I've heard it said today that Reagan didn't endorse Ford after being beat in the primary of 1976. I looked it up and it's true, he didn't explicitly endorse him and did not do any campaigning for him, but it was a different time and a different election. There was no 24/7 news and no expectation had been set that Reagan would explicitly endorse Ford. Ford was the ultimate establishment candidate and Reagan was running as an outsider.

Once the expectation was set that Cruz would endorse since he agreed to speak, he should have endorsed or declined the invitation to speak. Bad move on Cruz's part, and I don't think it really hurts Trump.

If Trump wins, then Cruz is out of commission for a long, long time. If Trump loses, people like Cruz will be blamed for not supporting him. He loses either way, when a simple "I'm voting for Donald Trump" would have put him in a better position either way. Whether he meant it or not. Very bad move for Cruz.

Right, BamaJeepster.

While it's true that Reagan didn't endorse Ford after being beat in the primary of 1976.... Reagan gave a far better, more gracious speech.

As a Cruz supporter, I was disappointed. It was a bad move for Cruz. Even just as a purely tactical matter, if he was looking to the future, it was a failure.

The Trump people knew ahead of time that it was going to be a "non-endorsement endorsement".
They let it happen; they were ready for it. Ted took the bait; he shouldn't have. They started their booing as soon as he said "Don't stay home, vote your conscience" which was his way of trying to avoid saying vote for the guy who calls me "Lyin' Ted" and who says that my dad might have had something to do with the killing of JFK.

Trump made a grand entrance right at the end.... thumbs up to the boos. He knew what was going on.

I think the response of the Trump people was overblown, but in a way they got what they wanted. Cruz looked small; people united around Trump.

Gingrich had Ted figured out and tried to help save face... but it was too late. It's also too bad that then Pence's very good speech gets a little lost in the Cruz kerfuffle.

So I'm disappointed today in Ted Cruz who missed an opportunity to bring about unity for the party and who comes off looking nothing like Reagan did in 1976. Ted ended up only hurting himself. You are right: he should have endorsed or at least said some nice things and buried the hatchet or declined the invitation to speak.

At a minimum, all he really had to say was:
"We have to beat Hillary. At this point in time, Donald Trump is the only guy who can do that."

He could have done that much. It would have gone a long way. Sometimes you have to set aside the anger that can come from the personal attacks and try to put it behind you. I hope he realizes that and he bounces back.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

I have been reviewing some of the biography of Donald Trump and took notice of his party jumping, Democrat until 1987, Republican until 1999, Reform until 2001, back to Democrat until 2009, back to Republican until 2011, Independent until 2012, and back to Republican since then.

I was reminded that Winston Churchill crossed the aisle a couple of times. When he was questioned about this, he said, "Anyone can rat. It takes a certain amount of ingenuity to re-rat."

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson

I don't do talk radio or the TV shows other than catching occasional bits here and there, but I know who most of them are and all that. I've heard Ingram a few times, and there are parts of her overall POV that I don't jive with at all, but giving credit where it's due...

...starting at 12:41 into this, she is on fire for a bit, and saying some things that needed to be said, especially in such a venue with such a wide audience around here and the world. Way to capture the spirit and spell it out... I'm very pleased to hear so much truth this week:

Whether or not Trump lives up to this is another matter altogether, but her points stand.

I am just amazed at some of the posts concerning Trump, seriously your only other option is her, yes I don't even want to name her that's how much she sickens me. If you're so disgusted over having to choose between Trump and her and decide not to vote, guess what? You've helped her. Remind me again the majority of us here are firearms enthusiasts and believe in our country and the constitution? Please name for me one thing she has done to support our rights or enthusiasms.
I am a subject of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, a state with one party rule and overbearing political correctness that discourages self help. A place just like New York, New Jersey, California and Oregon. Ponder this, I named four out of fifty that everyday shred our liberties, rights and freedoms, make us pay higher taxes to support a huge government and those who are not here legally. Who do you think will bring the other forty six closer to these four her or Trump? The choice is crystal clear her or Trump, I choose Trump.
