When ever I see an indoor fountain,
I think of the Peabody in memphis with the duck walk.

NOT HAUNTED

It's not old enough to be haunted.

You guys have a very strange attitude to history and just how far back something has to go before it actually qualifies as historic.

In our village -

1. The church has bits from the late 800 ADs. The 'new spire' was rebuilt in 1469.

2. In a nearby church there is a wall-plaque memorialising the death of John, Duke of York, who died at Azincourt in 1415.

3. Our local town got its charter in 1205 AD.

4. Oliver Cromwell went to the grammar school in the high street.

5. Between 1150 and 1300 there was a synagogue and mikveh where my daughter's apartment block now is.

6. Our local pub opened its doors for business in 1634. SIGSAC has been there.

7. Our local city cathedral has been a place of Christian worship since the late 700's.

That's just for starters...

Nestled in a wooded area close to downtown Chapel Hill and the UNC campus, is Gimghoul Castle.

Yes, the old Dunfey Hotel in San Mateo (now a Marriott) was built in the '60s. I remember how excited everyone was for getting our own castle (not an old real one, of course). It's about to be closed finally.

I see this monstrosity on my daily commute into Grand Rapids, Michigan:

It has been the subject of local ridicule since it was built about six years ago, but now it seems to have gotten national attention.
