I could be wrong, but I seem to recall being instructed to never wear gloves, a watch or even a ring when feeding a wood chipper. Maybe that only applies to people who prefer keeping their hands firmly attached.

With these machines, add: shaved head, no clothing, granite jock strap.

Don’t want anything getting snagged.

I grew up using a cross-cut saw like the one at 7:40. The only difference is ours was powered by a 10’ long, 8” belt from the rear of a 1933 Oliver crawler tractor, so there was that added danger. Ours was not homemade. My grandfather bought it new in the 1940’s from the Sears and Roebuck catalog. Unlike the one in the video, ours had long ado lost its guards.

Still typing this with two hands. Like Papa always said, you only get to make one mistake. Fortunately, I never made any around that saw. One thing about it, it was FAST compared to a chainsaw.

If this sort of technology becomes widespread, I predict that we will start seeing more farmers and rural folk with one arm. Just like when I was a kid.
Just can't stop progress.

Exactly. You'd think someone clever and talented enough to make one of these would be smart enough not to.

The ingenuity is somewhat impressive. I've always loved the ol' "convert a truck wheel into a sharpened cam knife" idea. That's my favorite.

The small ones fit great into a small wood stove.
I have an uncle that uses a small wood heater/oven and anything over a foot would hang out. He normally would just shove longer pieces in and lets it hang out, feeding it in as it goes.

I cut firewood for our kitchen stove for better than 25 years with a front mounted, PTO driven flat belt, tilting table saw on my 1941 SC Case tractor.

Good Times.

I need to make one and call it “The Whopper Chopper”. I wonder how many remember where that name came from.
