The entire thing is pork. Not happy with Trump on this one. Also on the last one why do big corporations get a handout but small businesses get loans? Am i misunderstanding it? It said billions go to SBA to give loans.
My understanding is that the SBA loans are administered through local banks, and are convertible to grants if the small business maintains specific staffing(read employment) guidelines. In other words, if they use the loans to pay employees, the loans become grants. Not that that is much better from a .gov spending standpoint, but it's better from a keeping small businesses operating standpoint.

It is a underhanded way of "paying" or funneling money to people who are for all practical purposes unemployed without them actually applying for unemployment benefits and without them being counted in the unemployment statistics.

Completely true.

On another note, and not a question to anyone specifically, one of my biggest concerns; sometime in the next 2 weeks or so from now, people are going to start being hard up for cash/credit. It's all well and good to "shelter in place" or "self quarantine" or "isolate" or whatever we want to call it, but ordering food online for home delivery or buying gas to go get it has to be paid for somehow. What happens when people can't pay? Nevermind.... Silly question. Roll Eyes

Heard today that Sweden is not doing much for the virus. They are telling older people, and people who might have compromised immune systems to stay in, but are not ordering it. The shops are open, businesses, and restaurants, bars are all open. They are letting the people decide what they want to do.

Yup...

I wonder if this approach would work in a country with 328 million people. Let's try it and see. I wish we would at least reopen small gyms; Mine rarely had more than 10 people in it at any given time before this. All this sitting around has me going nuts.

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) said Monday he will introduce a bill to create a “nonpartisan commission” to study “our mistakes” on coronavirus — which spread while Schiff was leading the effort to impeach and remove the president.

As Breitbart News has noted, Democrats handed over the articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump on the very day the first coronavirus victim landed in the U.S. from China. Congress spent the next 20 days on the impeachment trial, led by Schiff as head impeachment manager and chair of the House Intelligence Committee. It was not until Trump was acquitted Feb. 5 that a House Foreign Affairs subcommittee held a hearing on coronavirus.

Throughout the 20 days of the impeachment trial, while Schiff and his team were preoccupied with trying to remove the president from office, Trump took several actions aimed at fighting the coronavirus.

Trump imposed his travel ban on China Jan. 31 — the day the Senate voted on witnesses in the impeachement trial.

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR), one of the only legislators to raise the alarm on coronavirus, told the Arkansas Gazette in January that he was breaking the rules and skipping to trial to work with the administration on the coronavirus issue.

this should unleash a REP firestorm on Schiff

Yeah, I was afraid of that.

Seems I may just have to ask my daughter's private school directly. They somewhat pleaded with us to allow them to cash April's tuition check even though the students could possibly be out of school for the rest of the year. I did pay by the way since I support private schools. It's Montessori so it ain't cheap. I'm just curious if the owner is collecting tuition and applying for the SBA loan at the same time. I might take issue with that since she'd be taking money from me twice.

There are going to be tens of thousands of small businesses that get these loans. Remember, a "small business" can have up to 500 employees. Still, most of them are going to be the little pizza places and such that don't make a ton of money and have a bunch of low wage employees everyone wants to stay employed.

If you enter something like "Trump Iran warn sneak attack" (without the quotes) into your favorite search engine you should get plenty of hits.

One thing to consider is that applying for an SBA loan is no guarantee of getting one. Even if they get it, it may take a while. If you’re paying for April and not getting any instruction In April, it would not be unreasonable to ask that it be considered an advance on next year’s tuition. I understand and am sympathetic to their plight. The key is figuring a way that helps them and is fair to their families.
