"That caught us by surprise a little bit. But I asked him what the reasoning was, and he said, well, you can't have too many absences. So under Florida State law, there's about an eight week period to, select and fill in a vacancy. And so by doing so today, that allows me I've already placed a call to Governor DeSantis in Florida and said, let's start the clock. He's in Italy at the moment. And so we're going to talk first thing in the morning about this. And if we start the clock now, if you do the math, we may be able to fill that seat as early as January 3rd when we take the new oath of office for the new Congress." https://www.zerohedge.com/poli...etz-attorney-general _________________________

FBI seizes Polymarket CEO’s phone, electronics after betting platform predicts Trump win https://nypost.com/2024/11/13/...ts-trump-win-source/ FBI agents raided the Manhattan apartment of Polymarket CEO Shayne Coplan early Wednesday morning — just a week after the election-betting platform successfully predicted Donald Trump’s stunning victory, The Post has learned. The 26-year-old entrepreneur was roused from bed in his Soho pad at 6 a.m. by US law enforcement who demanded he turn over his phone and other electronic devices, a source close to the matter told The Post. It’s “grand political theater at its worst,” the source told The Post. “They could have asked his lawyer for any of these things. Instead, they staged a so-called raid so they can leak it to the media and use it for obvious political reasons.” Coplan was not provided with a reason for the raid, but the source suspects it was political retribution since Polymarket accurately predicted an easy Trump triumph over Vice President Kamala Harris – as opposed to traditional polls. The source also speculated that the government is likely piggybacking off liberal media reports that accuse Polymarket of market manipulation and rigging its polls in favor of Trump. “This is obvious political retribution by the outgoing administration against Polymarket for providing a market that correctly called the 2024 presidential election,” the source said. Coplan was not arrested and has not been charged, a Polymarket spokesperson told The Post on Wednesday evening. “Polymarket is a fully transparent prediction market that helps everyday people better understand the events that matter most to them, including elections,” the rep said. “We charge no fees, take no trading positions, and allow observers from around the world to analyze all market data as a public good.” The FBI did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Coplan posted on X after his run-in with the feds: “New phone, who dis?” Polymarket does not allow trading in the US, though bettors can bypass the ban by accessing the site through VPN. The FBI’s investigation comes a week after Coplan said Polymarket is planning to return to the US. The platform – which showed Trump with a 58.6% chance of winning the morning before Election Day and Vice President Kamala Harris’ odds at 41.4% – has also been linked to Trump and his allies. Billionaire Trump supporter Peter Thiel raised about $70 million in funding for Polymarket, according to a Forbes report earlier this year. Coplan has also been photographed looking chummy with Donald Trump Jr. In 2022, the online gambling platform was forced to pause its trading in the US and pay a $1.4 million penalty to settle charges with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission that it had failed to register with the agency. Since then, the platform has only been available for bettors in other countries. After the election, a mystery French trader raked in a whopping $85 million in profits on Trump bets — more than $50 million more than previously reported, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday. Polymarket ‘whale’ raked in $85M on Trump win — millions more than previously reported One week before the election, a Fortune report said analysts at two crypto research firms found widespread evidence of wash-trading on Polymarket – an illegal form of market manipulation in which a trader buys and sells the same entity to create a false impression of market activity. “Polymarket’s Terms of Use expressly prohibit market manipulation,” a Polymarket spokesperson told Fortune in a statement. The betting platform is facing scrutiny from France’s gambling regulator, Autorité Nationale des Jeux, to make sure Polymarket complies with the country’s laws. “We are aware of this site and are currently examining its operation and compliance with French gambling legislation,” a spokesperson for the regulator told Bloomberg. The Autorité Nationale des Jeux did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Polymarket declined to comment on France’s investigation. The so-called French whale who cashed in on Trump’s win goes by the alias Théo. He previously said his bets were simply about making money and he denied claims that he was trying to influence the election outcome. “I have nothing more to add,” Théo told The Wall Street Journal in his last email on Monday. “To be frank, I’m a bit tired of the whole thing – I’d like to fade back into my normal daily life.” _________________________ "Sometimes I wonder whether the world is being run by smart people who are putting us on or by imbeciles who really mean it." Donald Trump has learned how to play the game. https://x.com/amuse/status/1856902812971487736 If you were listening closely you might have heard Trump mention a 'secret' he had with Speaker Johnson. It is abundantly clear that if Trump wants to put his dream team together he's going to need to make a BUNCH of recess appointments. The Senate is unlikely to agree to adjourn so he can use his authority to adjourn both chambers as long as Johnson cooperates. Is that the 'secret' Trump mentioned? Under Article II, Section 3 of the U.S. Constitution, the President has the authority to adjourn Congress in the case of a disagreement between the House and Senate over the time of adjournment. It's a power that has never been used, and its scope remains relatively untested. Here’s a quick summary of the conditions that would be needed: One House Must Request Adjournment: One of the chambers (in this case, likely the House of Representatives, led by Speaker Johnson) would formally seek to adjourn. The Other House Must Refuse: The other chamber (in this scenario, the Senate) must then refuse to agree to this request. If this condition is met, it opens the door for the President to step in and resolve the disagreement by adjourning both chambers. Once Congress is adjourned, the President could use the recess to make "recess appointments" under Article II, Section 2 of the Constitution. This would allow Trump to install his preferred Cabinet members without Senate confirmation.

Matt Gaetz has made a lot of enemies, both Democrat and Republican.
|

I heard some talk about that earlier. Such a move would definitely test Thune and the Republican Senators. Will they hold a grudge for taking away their responsibility of advice and consent? Or will they continue to work with the President on passing his agenda? No doubt some Senators will get bent out of shape if Trump and Johnson move ahead on this. Well, fuck 'em if they can't take a joke I say. And yeah, enough Rep Senators have already said Gaetz is a no go. Gaetz is probably more hated in DC than Trump. ~Alan Acta Non Verba NRA Life Member (Patron) God, Family, Guns, Country Men will fight and die to protect women... because women protect everything else. ~Andrew Klavan

Like Gaetz or not. I would think Pres. elect. knew he could get him confirmed. Probably part of the negotiations to give Thune the job. Just a guess. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

President Trump did not control the vote to get Thune the job, nor does he control the votes of the Republican Senators. I doubt that Gaetz could get confirmed on a straight vote, therefore, President Trump is using a provision in the Constitution which will allow this appointment of Gaetz. If you want to see a failure, try to confirm Gaetz via the normal process. I would love to be wrong about this, but...

Again, my cloudy crystal ball. But "if" Gaetz does not get confirmed Pres. elect. will go to another appointee. I am sure he has a very strong plan B. It is not going to be AOC deal. Of course I could be wrong. ' "Practice like you want to play in the game"
