Millie had a slow leak in a tire on her mini van,
the dash light came on while in the big city .

She went to discount tire to have it fixed,

after checking the treads depths on all four they offered to rotate and balance them at no charge.
Eek

25 minutes later we were on our way ,with a patched and plugged tire , with out a bill !

I was astounded , will recommend them

Great experience....pretty much the norm. I use Discount Tire exclusively for my business vehicles.

My Discount Tire story....

Brand new Yukon Denali punctured a tire. Went to the dealer I purchased from ans was tole we can fix it by charging you for a new tire. Went to Discount Tire. Never been there before at this point. They looked at it, showed me the hole and told me they had to call Bridgestone to see if it could be patched. It could. Went to pick up the truck and asked "What do I owe you?" they replied "Nothing". I told him I didn't even buy the tire from his. His response was "But I bet you buy your next tires from me.".

I hope you tossed the guy in the back a little tip for doing that for you. I've always had good luck in my dealings with Discount Tires.

well, it turns out that 4 people work on bal and rotates, and a 5th worked on the damaged tire,

I did give the final guy a tip, but there was no way I could tip all 5.

the black screw that they found in between the tread looked like it came out of a pocket watch,

I wonder it they use metal detectors?

All my vehicles are registered with Discount Tire. They do good work! Even had a free replacement in Georgia when one (bought in Texas) failed.

They replaced one Michelin on my ex-wife's car that might have had a pro-rated credit but ...

When I went back two years & 5,000 miles later to have the other three replaced, I did get a warranty credit. As the (3) tires had a bit of an issue. Even though not purchased from Discount Tire.

Six months later they replaced the OEM TPMS sensors and gave them a 6yr/72k mile warranty. And the sensor on the single older tire was leaking a thimble of air per day ... after two visits, the shop ticket said, "Repair or replace tire". Very pro-active (It was the stem).

2008 Impreza, 80k miles, no trouble lights. 2.5L 170HP 4-speed with Sportshift (pre-CVT).

For a while I've been thinking about a combination Discount Tire / Chik-Fil-A franchise ...

I used to buy from them until my wife took my Mustang with expensive aluminum wheels there for a balance. They buggered all four rims with the tire machine and told her they were not responsible for specialty wheels. I made several calls and a visit but no managers were ever there. That was the end of my doing business with them.

I use them often and have had only 1 bad experience. They sold one of the tires that I ordered so I had to take time off work to go get it a few days later and they made me wait in line when I got there. What should have taken 20mins, took an hour and a half. Other than that, they’ve been pretty good.

My only Discount Tire experience:

Long story, short; I had a blowout on my boat trailer on I-75 in Kennesaw, GA at 5:00. I called Discount Tires, the had 4 of the tires I wanted in stock and as long as I got there before 6:00, closing time, they would install the tires. I got there at 5:50 and true to there word, they replaced the tires. They were there until 7:30 finishing jobs. They used 4 jacks at the same time to jack the boat and trailer up. Together they weigh 9,400lbs.

Bought several sets of Michelin tires from them since the trusted local guy closed shop, due to retirement.

Similar deal, I had a flat on a 3 week old truck, took it to them to get fixed, they beat the hell out of that rim and proceeded to tell me it was not their issue. I fought with the store manager and a regional manager over it. They wouldn't budge. It cost me $300 for a new rim.

I have not been back to one of their stores since.

Sorry to hear these disparaging remarks. I have been dedicated DT customer for several decades, and have had nothing but stiller service. Good prices on tires, flats fixed for free, drive in tire pressure check and level-off. No other dealer I've run across offers such services.

I guess we need to take a step back and consider not every location is managed the same, and tire store workers can have a bad day like everyone else. I've got some mid expensive wheels on my Tacoma which I purchased from DT. If I have occasion to have these serviced (new tires, flat etc) I'll likely have an upfront conversation with a person with some responsibility so I won't expect any surprises.
