Getting a little closer to home. A man over 60 with underlying problems died in Indy today. His wife is in the ICU with corona virus as well. Sad.

Wasn't H1N1's R0 about the same as typically seasonal influenza? SARS-CoV-2 is about twice as infectious (or more).

Ever notice how the recommendations about group size are always a number ending in zero?

No more than 10 people...

Gatherings of 250 or more are prohibited...

Risk assessment math is never that neat, even if you use significant figures correctly.

I want to see s recommendation like these:

No groups of 13 or more...

No assemblies of 187 or more....

Odds of contracting it are 2.3 in 7.6247....

If your temperature is over 101.73....

It would still be guessing but it would appear more reality based.

Whining off.

Wuhan sacks officials after pork deliveries are tipped into street from back of rubbish truck

https://www.scmp.com/news/chin...r#Echobox=1584006441

Two officials in the Chinese city of Wuhan were sacked and another was under investigation after government staff used a rubbish truck to ship a consignment of pork for human consumption, local authorities said.

Residents in the Yuanlin community of Qingshan district were outraged when the pork they bought from government stores arrived in the vehicle on Wednesday.

The meat, packed in plastic bags containing 1,000 portions, was tipped onto the ground and then handed out to customers, according to residents who complained about tainted food on Weibo, China’s Twitter-like microblogging service.

In one widely shared photo, the bags were shown being dumped from a battered and dirty truck onto a large plastic sheet on the ground. In another, several workers stepped onto the sheet to count the bags.

Food supplies have largely been controlled by the government since Wuhan, the city in central Hubei province at the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak, was locked down in late January.

This is from a Swiss member of another gun forum.

quote:
In Switzerland from tonight.. all non essential business are closed until April 19th- same for all schools.

All public venues are closed.

All group events are cancelled..

All borders are closed to foreigners except those working here.

The Army is deployed in support of hospitals and in logistics. It is the biggest military operation since 1940. (And despite the joke/jabs that are gonna come, the swiss mob in 1940 was huge).

Do we have a Switzerlander who can verify this?

Given the proximity to hard hit northern Italy, Switzerland may well come under assault as the Italian healthcare system falls apart.

I can't work from home, neither can any of my manufacturing personnel.

Since all of our contracts are for healthcare and the hospitals have been gearing up for infectious disease since the ebola scare, we have been working almost 20 hours a week overtime since January.

They have been changing all of their wayfinding to infectious disease precaution levels.

I work the ticket booth on weekends at the Flea Market here. The Ohio and Indiana Markets have all closed up. Richwood probably will by weeks end. Past 3 weeks Ive sold tickets to over 3,000 people. I use hand sanitizer often. Muslim women wearing some kind of red goo painted on their fingers. Some people wearing nitril gloves. Fraidy cat Samolis and Africans pull up 6 feet from the damn ticket booth so I gotta damn near fall out the door to collect a dollar. Last time I checked, people who are here from those countrys came from what has been called a shit hole.

Effective tomorrow I’m to work from home for the next 30 days, the drive home was eerily quiet and very light traffic, it felt like a Sunday at 5 pm and not the typical insane rush hour traffic.

It’s starting to feel like we are all living out the movie Deep Impact, where we are all just waiting for the comet to hit. It’s a very strange feeling to me. Frown

Now ammo sellers are inundated.

from SGAmmo.com:

quote:

Due to overwhelming order volume over the past week we are not currently accepting new orders. We are currently approximately 10 days behind on filling orders and the priority is going to be given to filling existing orders. We will begin to restore inventory later this week once we have a handle on shipping all orders that have been placed so far. In order to aid us in providing faster service, please do not email to ask when your order will ship unless you need to cancel or change the address. UPS will email tracking info the day the order ships and we are working as fast as we possibly can to fill your orders. We have inventory allocated to fill all existing orders, if you have an order in it will be filled.

My Mcd's was normal (I go inside) except hardly anyone there. It's brand new - was demolished and rebuilt in 2-3 months - grand opening was mid-December.
