Might it be that you are just bored by your local gun shops? I have tried to find something interesting for the last three months, but have come up empty. Even my local shop that used to be filled with interesting older guns appears to be drying up. I think everyone puts their cool stuff up for auction these days. I personally try to stay away from auctions, I could easily spend way more money than I should.

Alternatively you could try something new. A different type of hunting, long range, skeet/trap, 2 or 3 gun, night vision, or dive into black powder.

What I have found an interest in are guns from the 1970's. I have no idea why, but a semi-auto or a revolver from that era is much more interesting to me than anything new.

Oddly enough it's the same with me and motorcycles. The technology is the best it's ever been right now, but I'm more excited about a Honda from the 1970's.

Finally, movies are the same way. I seek out 70's movies that I have not seen (there are not many) and I have zero interest in the new movies.

This is normal. Everything is either evolved to the mean or constructed by committee.

Boredom is a feeling just like any other feeling.

The issue is accepting it and being OK with just being bored.

Most try to fight it…and that creates other issues.

Fighting it is like quicksand. The more you fight and try to do something, the more issues pop up.

I find if I embrace it and let it run its course, my mind will eventually offer a solution and something to do that is pleasing. But don’t over do it. Blow on that small thing like starting a fire. Eventually I get back into the swing of something.

What use to be fun is now work.

The hobbies/interests that combined and turned into my profession eventually led to the apathy we're discussing here. The last thing I want to do on the weekends is my job, after dealing with it throughout the week.

Fortunately, I have many other interests that are magnificent money/time eaters, which will never become my profession (flying, cars, reloading/guns).

Keeping these things in their respective category (money-maker, money-eater) has helped.

I go through that from time to time with firearms and other hobbies.
With guns it's mainly the bullshit political culture that makes enjoying this hobby/sport very difficult every couple years when there are shortages and new laws restricting what I can own. It gets bothersome and makes me want to just take up stamp collecting sometimes.
Like right now I can say I haven't fired a round in almost 2 years. I have a great stock of ammo but I don't want to replenish anything at todays prices.

So true. Even in my life I had the same blessing. No time. While raising our 2 kids, my wife and I each worked full time jobs, I taught computer classes at night for adult ed, I was chairman of the school board, I did radio play-by-play for our football team and basketball teams, I was in our local Sheriff's Posse, I was president of the Kiwanis club and our children were active. Not all of these at once, thankfully.

We were busy but we were happy - and satisfied. Now our kids have grown and we've been retired 7 years. I have tried stained glass, wood carving, vinyl cutting, woodworking and others. My only active hobby is reading. I read about 65 books a year and watch the "What are you reading" thread in the Liar daily.

There is lots and lots of cool stuff out there to try if you are looking for a new hobby. You can pick up a good 3D printer for a few hundred bucks, a good laser etching machine for a few hundred bucks, a really cool CNC cutter for a few thousand bucks. Look at the YouTube videos.

Today, I'm not bored with a good book - I am thankful for reaching this point in my life. I don't have many of the 'Gattas' in my life that Para mentioned.

I don't have too many guns on the "interested in buying" any more. I'd like a 20 gauge over and under, but that is about it.

But that doesn't mean I am not interesting in shooting and hunting any more. Just not buying.
