California Could Cut Off Feds In Response To Trump Threats

SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) – The state of California is studying ways to suspend financial transfers to Washington after the Trump administration threatened to withhold federal money from sanctuary cities, KPIX 5 has learned.

The federal funds pay for a variety of state and local programs from law enforcement to homeless shelters.

“California could very well become an organized non-payer,” said Willie Brown, Jr, a former speaker of the state Assembly in an interview recorded Friday for KPIX 5’s Sunday morning news. “They could recommend non-compliance with the federal tax code.”

California is among a handful of so-called “donor states,” which pay more in taxes to the federal Treasury than they receive in government funding.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Willie Brown! He's still alive?

Personally I think it would be a hoot to see California go 'round and 'round with the IRS. Not to mention that it would keep them both too busy to bother the rest of us much.

Businesses remit taxes, both their own and those collected as payroll taxes from employees, directly to the Federal Government. The state isn't involved.

If any business did not do so, they'd likely end up with the IRS in there face pretty quickly. The state could "recommend" anything it wanted. But if any state official actively tried to interfere with federal tax collection, they'll probably end up in a federal holding jail very quickly, looking at some significant time in federal prison.

Gee, the "sanctuary cities" and California are now leading the drive in both nullification and secession. Who'd a thunk it that the spirits of John C. Calhoun, Jefferson Davis, and Andrew Stephens still exists.

Right.
And... California residents mail their individual federal tax payments directly to the IRS as well... not to Sacramento.
These leftists are just too stupid to realize that they have absolutely no control over remittances to the federal government.

Hmm. So what happens if the IRS starts foreclosing right, left and center, and Uncle Sam winds up owning half of the real estate in the SF Bay Area and metro LA the Evil Empire West? Feds don't pay property taxes, do they?

You're thinking too much about individuals. The real test would be what companies do, since they collect the lion's share of federal taxes (remember employees generally have their taxes withheld.) There are big federal penalties on companies that don't withhold and remit taxes. No matter what Sacramento want's, most business owners/executives are not going to want to get their companies on the bad side of the Federal Government.

They mention in the video that CA only gets back 78c on every dollar they send to the federal government. I have heard that before, but when I look up the numbers it looks just the opposite:
Federal CA Revenue 273.4M
Federal CA Spending 333.8M
Granted these numbers are from 2010. What am I missing?
Looks more like .819c going to the Fed to me.

As much as I'd like to see Cali be divided by zero and have to go through forced integration, divide by two seems practical. Less mess than Six Californias.

Actually, in regards to the tech companies, if they didn't play ball, the feds could seize their data centers...bye bye business!

Sure, the state of fricking lunatics could recommend that CA individuals stop paying federal taxes and that CA companies stop sending payroll taxes to the federal government.

Some complete and utter morons might even follow their recommendation. Not me though. As much as I don't like paying taxes and as much as I hate dealing with payroll taxes, I am not going to slap that bear just because the lunatics running this asylum think I should. What a joke.

A couple of questions that a Calexit brings up....

First, what would they do for water? I believe the vast majority of their water comes from out of state. I would imagine they would have to negotiate a treaty with the US or have a moon-shot type project for desalinization.

Second, I wonder how many companies would stay in the new Republic of California. Maybe it's not feasible to relocate all your employees, but I can't imagine the economic climate would be much more favorable inside the United States. I wouldn't be surprised to see the US levy punitive taxes on companies in California that do business in the US.

*If* a Calexit were to come to fruition, I wonder what the out-migration from all the rest of the Dem strongholds, places like Denver, Seattle, New York, DC! Etc, etc. would be. It would be very ironic that the new 'administration' nessitate applying immigration "rules" and the like to control in-migration of all of the potheads, freeloaders, etc. that would be an YUGE drain on their resources.
