After reading your original post, I figured it would amount to nothing. Lo and behold, its nothing!
Bad roadside experience no doubt, but at least you have come out ok.

When I ran traffic, I would ensure there was a decent place to pull over before turning on the overheads. I didn't see any mention of the officer blipping the siren (or maybe missed it, long day.) I would never hook someone or write someone for eluding if the siren was never used. The lights mean pull over. Lights and siren mean "pull over NOW."

Just because the charge was dropped doesn't mean it's nothing. A day with his family at an amusement park was taken, his bail money was taken, the money he spent on a lawyer was taken. Stupid arrest likely cost him a few grand, at least.

Lesson to be learned: Pull over immediately, and let the cop get on the speaker and instruct you to move up the road or wherever they deem fit. This was just an out of state plates money grab. Sad.

What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

This is the most common sense post. I learned a lot reading about this OP's ordeal.

I had Baltimore County officer put me over back in the early 70's for squealing my tires when I made a U-turn. I was on a 6 lane highway in south Baltimore with 60+ MPH traffic. I drove up to the next intersection which had a vacant lot. He was on a Cushman motor scooter.

I tried to explain to him why I didn't pull over right away. He said something to the effect that I would be looking down at a cold barrel of steel. Big Grin While we were there talking, one of his buddies went shooting across the road in front of some traffic on another Cushman. These were one of the smaller Cushman scooters.

I don't remember what the ticket was for but I never got a notice to go to court. I was afraid that something must have happened to him.

It is more dangerous today due to people talking on cellphones. I have been rearended several times just stopped at a traffic light.

These types of ordeals give all the police officers a bad name. It is in the police's best interest to have good relations with the public since they are the eyes and ears needed to stop crime.

It is very liberal around here and some don't even have business cards or take notes. Then there are the cars with the heavy tint on the windows. There is no way I would walk up to that car but have them step out of the car from a distance. I don't know how these vehicles pass the yearly inspection.

You ran a red light.
Officer hits the lights to pull you over.
You keep driving, and write a long story here on SF....
They aren't happy with you & call in backup to help check you out.
You get dragged downtown.

I don't understand, what did you think was going to happen when you kept driving? All the nonsense about safety in your story is great for a story but you should've just pulled over and let the officer instruct you on the loudspeaker to continue on to a safer place and let him do his job.

Sorry but in my opinion you got what you deserved. Next time pull over and comply, YouTube is filled with people with stories like this and phone videos and it's tiring to watch and listen to.

Glad it worked out for you, hope it didn't hurt your wallet too much.

IMO, the officer knows you aren't pulling an OJ with your driving when you pull over. Annoyance is one thing, a ride downtown is kinda stoopid. But hey, I'm no police ossifer, and my wife seems to think I'm wrong all the time, so...

It’s called police discretion. The guy was with his family. Should’ve just been a ticket for running the red and let him go. Like someone said earlier, cop is ‘badge heavy’.

Police Discresion is offered when someone gives the officer the courtesy of complying, pulling on/off the shoulder with hazard lights on/off and driving another 1.5 miles is not complying with LEO.

If he had pulled right over he probably would have gotten a warning.

There is a long area to pull over after the light, if the officer lit the OP up right away and the OP drove past this area, I could understand the officer being ticked.

If you miss this area, there is no place to pull off the road for over a mile. It's a 4 lane causeway leading to an island and there are no shoulders.

I still believe arresting him and ruining his family's vacation was over the top especially now that the whole thing was pled down to a defective vehicle.

If you really believe that cop would’ve given a warning for running a red, I have a bridge for sale.

NEWSFLASH-

OP could have saved himself hundreds, if not thousands of dollars, hours in and out of confinement trying to deal with this situation if he just DIDN'T OVERTHINK IT.

Cop hits the lights, pull the fuck over. It's not your fault if the Cop gets flattened by a semi rolling by, in fact it would be Darwin at fucking work. One less dumbass inhabiting the planet.

Now if you want to play semi-sovereign citizen, cry about "Mah-rights!", and you might just get to win stupid prizes with your stupid game, just like the OP.
