Both final votes were more than two to one in favor. Funny many of the nay votes were the same people that voted against the freedom of school choice bill.

It is done, the Governor signed it. We are now the 26th state to have permit less carry.
The one thing, the law will officially go into effect on July 1, 2023 so we wait just a little longer.

Can out of state US citizens carry concealed, or does this only apply to Florida residents?

Yes any US citizen, 21 and over that would qualify for a license can carry without.

Congratulations Florida!!

Many of our states owe Florida for getting the ball rolling in '86/'87 with "Shall Issue" Concealed Carry!

Almost 40 years of expansion of our gun rights!

Come on NE, SC, LA the table is set for you

edited to ask - OK, I have a permit in Florida, will (should) I need to update it, when the time comes, or just let it lapse? wondering about reciprocal states for traveling?

You will still need the CWL for reciprocity, so you should renew yours when it comes up.

And at least in Utah, CCW permit holders can carry in a school and on school grounds where those utilizing Constitutional carry cannot. There is also the background check fee waiver for permit holders when purchasing firearms and few other benefits I can't think of at the moment.

In Florida you can bypass the 3 day waiting period with a CCW license, which is why I will renew mine.

What's their rationale for the ridiculous 3-day waiting period? I would expect that to be a commie state's law, but Florida? Pass the NICS and you should be able to take the gun home the same time, whether you have CCW license or not.

Looks like Nebraska is the most likely opportunity this year.

Three business days if the buyer does not have a Florida carry permit. For those of us who do have a carry permit, there is no wait. Buy it, get the 4473 approved while you wait (mine has always been approved in less than a minute), and take your purchase with you.

Yeah, we get all that, but, as I asked in the post right above Alan's,

Florida’s firearms and carry laws are a result of politics. They don’t have to make sense.

Way back before 1987, Florida had open carry and concealed carry. The problem for gun owner’s was that many, many local jurisdictions made up their own rules resulting in a patchwork of laws from county to county, city to city. You know, the kind gun owners every where make fun of?

In 1987, Florida lost open carry (there are limited exceptions, my personal favorite is “while going to or coming from a hunting or fishing expedition" and I’m always ready for a fishing trip Wink ), but the state preempted local firearms laws. We got shall issue concealed weapons licensing, note “weapons”, we don’t discriminate here. How many here who are in disbelief about Florida’s 3 day wait for non-CWL holders have to deal with weird knife laws, or brass knuckles, or what ever?

A little problem with the preemption from 1987 is that there were no penalties for local governments that chose to ignore the law. That was addressed in 2011.

In 2005, we got Castle Doctrine.

We are making fairly large steps in the right direction.

I suppose it’s the old cooling off period logic The issued CCW supposes you passed the “extra” background check whatever that is and a bare minimum of some training to get the FL CCW. I think if you have a hunting license or are military you can get a long gun same day. They fooled with the law int he last year or 3

My background usually comes back in 2-10 minutes even on a Saturday. I’ve seen guys milling around the shop for 30-45 minutes before and my LGS states they have seen multi hour waits.

I live minutes from Alabama border and maybe 2 hour or so from the GA border. So I’m good with ccw and constitution carry there and reciprocity wise I’m good with the entire southeast. I really don’t intend to go back west on purpose anytime soon

This law is better than nothing and I’d rather have the AZ law including open carry.

If I am not mistaken after the Parkland shooting, rifles/shot guns that were not subject to the 3 day wait before were added.
If you have a permit and pass the 4473 background check you take same day if my memory is correct. I have been out of the gun industry and have not purchased a fire arm in a while.
