People are so gullible.

Text messages saying you’ve been selected for a military draft are fake, US Army says
POSTED 10:15 AM, JANUARY 8, 2020, BY SCRIPPS NATIONAL, UPDATED AT 10:54AM, JANUARY 8, 2020

Text messages telling people they have been selected for the military draft are fraudulent, the U.S. Army Recruiting Command says.

According to a bulletin from USAREC Public Affairs, they’ve received multiple calls and emails from people who received text messages saying they’ve been selected for the military draft. The U.S. Army is not contacting anyone regarding a military draft, and if you are receiving text messages or any other form of communication about it, it’s not coming from them, the Army says.

“The U.S. Army does not control the draft. Per the Selective Service System, the agency that oversees the draft, in the event that a national emergency necessitates a draft, Congress and the president would need to pass official legislation to authorize a draft,” USAREC says on Facebook.

The Selective Service System is a separate agency outside of the U.S. Department of Defense and would be the one to contact people about a military draft, though one has not been in effect since 1973. Since then, the military has been an all-volunteer service. Registering for the Selective Service does not enlist a person in the military.

“The Selective Service System is conducting business as usual,” the agency says on their Facebook page.

In addition, as stated by USAREC, Congress and President Donald Trump would need to pass official legislation in order to enact a draft.

Fact check: The @USArmy is NOT contacting anyone regarding the draft.

Text messages currently circulating are false and are not official Army communications.

URGENT NEWS: Army Recruiting discredits military draft texts
A number of fraudulent text messages informing individuals they have been selected for a military draft have circulated throughout the country this week.U.S. Army Recruiting Command has received

In times of peace, the Selective Service’s primary function is to put together a list of potential draftees. The potential pool of draftees is made up of male U.S. residents between the ages of 18 and 25. Under current law, women can’t be drafted, as the Department of Defense doesn’t employ them in ground combat. A few select groups of people are also excused automatically.

According to the SSS website, should there ever be a draft, this is how it would unfold:

1. Congress and the President Authorize a Draft
A crisis occurs which requires more troops than the volunteer military can supply. Congress passes and the President signs legislation which starts a draft.

2. The Lottery
A lottery based on birthdays determines the order in which registered men are called up by Selective Service. The first to be called, in a sequence determined by the lottery, will be men whose 20th birthday falls during that year, followed, if needed, by those aged 21, 22, 23, 24 and 25. 18-year-olds and those turning 19 would probably not be drafted.

3. All Parts of Selective Service are Activated
Selective Service activates and orders its state directors and Reserve Forces Officers to report for duty. See also Agency Structure.

4. Physical, Mental, and Moral Evaluation of Registrants
Registrants with low lottery numbers are ordered to report for a physical, mental, and moral evaluation at a Military Entrance Processing Station to determine whether they are fit for military service. Once he is notified of the results of the evaluation, a registrant will be given 10 days to file a claim for exemption, postponement, or deferment. See also Classifications.

5. Local and Appeal Boards Activated and Induction Notices Sent
Local and Appeal Boards will process registrant claims. Those who pass the military evaluation will receive induction orders. An inductee will have 10 days to report to a local Military Entrance Processing Station for induction.

6. First Draftees are Inducted
According to current plans, Selective Service must deliver the first inductees to the military within 193 days from the onset of a crisis.

The fake text messages regarding the draft come in the wake of an airstrike ordered by Trump that killed Qassem Soleimani, a key Iranian military commander, and subsequent retaliatory missile strikes by Iran.

All designed to get the public outraged that Trump is going to send little Johnny off to die in the Middle East. I don't doubt for a second this goes back to some well-funded leftist group. Mad

Dear Iran,

If you're going to deliver a slap in the face to show your resolve, you really need to connect. Otherwise all you did was prove how inept you are. Again.

She's also advisory to the Iranian military.

quote:
The inspiringly patriotic Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Tehran, no, check that, I’m hearing she’s from Minnesota) tweeted Monday offering some unsolicited military advice to the Islamic Republic of Iran: “Trump needs to immediately divest from his businesses and comply with the emoluments clause. Iran could threaten Trump hotels *worldwide* and he could provoke war over the loss of revenue from skittish guests. His business interests should not be driving military decisions.” She also tweeted a video in which the late comedian George Carlin asserts that the U.S. is “not very good at anything” besides war. And so once again we have to ask the by-now-familiar question: Is Ilhan Omar a traitor who hates America?

She needs to be dealt with.

A stampede at the funeral for slain Iranian general Qasem Soleimani killed 56 people on Tuesday and injured more than 200, the Iranian news agency reported, delaying the massive procession for several hours before he was buried in his home city of Kerman.

Soleimani’s coffin was transported atop a blue float draped with oversize flower wreaths and photographs, and hugged by many in the black-clad crowd on the route. Hundreds of thousands marched alongside, waving Iranian flags and black mourning banners in memory of the powerful Quds Force commander killed in a U.S. drone strike in Baghdad last week. The most prevalent flag bore language calling for revenge.

Vengeance was the theme of the day.

“We will take revenge, a revenge that will be tough, strong, decisive and finishing and will make them regret,” said Maj. Gen. Hossein Salami in a speech during the funeral at a graveyard near the teal-domed Saheb Zaman mosque. A picture with Soleimani’s face towered over his shoulder.

“We will set fire to the place they love, and they know where that is,” he said, implying U.S. ally Israel. The crowd chanted “Death to Israel!” as he spoke.

I think the Iranian response checks the boxes that the Iranian government and Iranian Revolutionary Guard folks wanted and needed. They fully understand the seriousness of the situation. I understand they don’t have the greatest military resources but out of 15 missiles I’m confident they would’ve hit a target if they truly tried. They hit their intended targets knowing they did not want to cross the very clear red line. Naturally the general populace of Iran will be made aware of the crushing Iranian victory via state run media.
I would love to see all of our troops out of the Middle East. We are well aware that we can’t force a population to become a democracy that doesn’t want that system. Despite our excellent technology and ability to spy on the region we have to maintain a presence there. That presence can be a non-engaging presence overall but the population there needs the constant reminder that their actions are being observed and intervention will be taken if needed such as nuclear aspirations or a mounting threat against the US or our allies.
The world has been put on notice that the US will no longer tolerate some of the “outbursts” that have been accepted in the past. I hope and pray the citizens of the United States wake up and realize our greatest threat lives among us and is up for election periodically. Time will tell. God bless America!

I don’t know who’s more angry over this whole kerfuffle; the Iranians or the democrats? Clearly the Iranians wanted to avoid war but look like they aren’t blustering cowards. The democrats on the other hand wanted Trump to start a war so badly they could taste it. His measured response while saying the previous administration PAID for the fired missiles must be infuriating them to no end Big Grin

I'd say they started out equally angry, but now it's the Democrats. See: The Iranians got their revenge--in a manner of speaking. The Democrats are still seeking their's--with diminishing hopes they'll ever get it.

That base is enormous, in the middle of nowhere and is geared for supporting unconventional warfare (ISIS); it's half-way in-between Baghdad and the Syrian border. Anti-air assets are in high demand and there's not many of them, not to mention we only have 5k troops in-country.

This reminds me of the Cuban missile crisis. USSR was bringing in missiles that could reach the US, Kennedy "drew a line in the sand", and the USSR ships turned around before crossing the line.

However about two years later the US quietly withdrew it's missiles that were located in Turkey. Probably this was part of the agreement.

None the less, our president stood up for what was right, and things worked out.

I see nothing in this photo to make me believe it's real. Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey? I don't think that's even spelled right.

Hogwash in my opinion.
