He deserves a Nobel Peace Prize, just for the meeting. If nothing concrete comes from the meeting he will have still accomplished two things.

First a real opportunity to gauge where Kim is at. It's my belief the his nuclear ability was greatly diminished or mostly destroyed by the most recent test. He won't be losing much by giving it up (or hiding it better). I also think after millions upon millions of people starving to death is finally taking its toll and sanctions have worked to create pressure from within. He may be left with little other choice than to capitulate. Trump says he know within minutes of Kim is sincere, I hope he's that good.

Second if we walk away without deal, the groundwork and dialog will have been started. Both making it easier for round two knowing where each other stand and more importantly I think, giving the people a glimpse of what a prosperous unified or at least peaceful Korean peninsula might look like. Could you imagine having starved for decades, then have the prospect of Micky D's and KFCs on every corner? Hunger is a strong motivator, I think the North Koreans are ready to finally eat.

I am watching the meeting with my own two eyes but my brain just can not process what I am seeing. Absolutely unreal. When I voted for our President not long ago no way, I mean no way could I had imagined what I am seeing now. I know there is a chance it could all go stinky but jeez what the hell else will Trump pull off in the years to come. Seeing those two standing in frony of the NK and US flags, un freaking real.

It is amazing at what a non politician can accomplish....kind of the way it was with the founding fathers. We desperately need term limits, both parties just exist now to enrich themselves, their families, and friends.

And he's right.

I LOL'd when I heard what a White House official said when asked what the Trump Doctrine was.

“The Trump Doctrine is ‘We’re America, Bitch.’ That’s the Trump Doctrine,” the official bluntly explained.

You can't truly call yourself "peaceful" unless you are capable of great violence. If you're not capable of great violence, you're not peaceful, you're harmless.

We’re lucky Sebastian Gorka is on Fox and not on Trump’s advisory staff. He’s making a fool of himself rattling on making Kim sound like some cave dweller clinging to a cave in the snow of North Korea, astonished by the bright lights, affluence and opulence he is encountering in Singapore.

Kim was educated in Switzerland, probably speaks reasonably good English at some level, is a connoisseur of expensive Cognacs and other luxuries.....

When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

I started watching after they'd already clasped hands, but from what I saw, Trump certainly won the body language/dominance show, repeatedly putting his and on Un, and also pointing him in the direction he needed to go. That's a difference between somebody who's spent a lifetime in meetings with other powerful folks v. the brutal child of a dictator, ruling cowering lackeys.

Trump has succeeded in initiating talks between NK and the US because Donald Trump is not a career politician.

When we heard the first hints that talks might be possible, Obama's boy Ben Rhodes said that proper preparation for such a meeting would take eight or more months. Here are, what, nine, ten weeks out? And what do we see? Now there's a dose of reality for you, lefties.
President Trump knows how to cut through the bullshit, you arrogant Ivy League snobs.

And oh, I know- he's "under-prepared". Well, gosh, your brilliant, dazzling crew had eight years to try to do this and you failed, if you tried at all. I guess you're still in the planning stage, huh?

And here's bumbling, incompetent, evil old Donald Trump getting it done in about the first 500 days of his administration. Gosh, how'd that happen? Some kind of a fluke, huh? Strange.

So, I'll cast my lot with the man who knows how to get things done.

By coincidence, I happened to be perusing “12 Rules for Life.....” by Jordan Peterson earlier, and spotted this:

quote:
You can use words to manipulate the world into delivering what you want. This is what it means to “act politically.” This is spin. It’s the specialty of unscrupulous marketers, salesmen, advertisers, pickup artists, slogan-possessed utopians and psychopaths. It’s the speech people engage in when they attempt to influence and manipulate others. It’s what university students do when they write an essay to please the professor, instead of articulating and clarifying their own ideas. It’s what everyone does when they want something, and decide to falsify themselves to please and flatter. It’s scheming and sloganeering and propaganda.

Speaking plainly, truthfully, without guile is acceptable, maybe even preferable to most people if you are perceived as sincere, not hateful. Our culture depends too much on marketing, PR, manipulation.
