Over the last six months, I have made my son visit all the branches of the military. I didn’t want to place any undue pressure in his decision making, so we visited all of them.

Over the weekend, he made the announcement to join the Marines. Today, he and I signed the paperwork and he signed up in the delayed entry program. It all isn’t finalized, but he tentatively ships in June. Like my father before me, and his father before him, I signed on the dotted line, full well knowing of the challenges ahead of my only son.

To say I am really proud right now is likely the understatement of 2020.

Update- despite my attempting to edge him into an Intelligence contract, looks like he’s going recon.

Congratulations on raising a responsible, patriotic son. I imagine it must be difficult to let him go as an only son, but you already know that freedom is worth protecting, and that requires willing and able American men and women to answer the call as he has selflessly chosen to do.

Godspeed to him and to your family!

I hope I will be as open and fair minded with my son when he starts his search.

Semper Fi, JLJones. Just sit back and enjoy his tales of adventure. You’ve raised a fine, young man.

My son ships out next June. He’s going Army, but has an Option 40 with RASP. Time will tell...

My son just got out, and is now doing the exact job he did while in, at the base next door.

Congratulations! If only half the US fathers and sons were half as dedicated as you are, the world would be a better place.

Awesome. I'm sure you are proud. I see it as trusting him to the Corps, but giving him to the United States.

PS - I assume you are sending him off to Corps so he can finally receive some quality firearms training? Big Grin
