The msm.

ANY Democrat politician.

Those that listen to and believe every word the above two say.

Do you honestly believe you're reaching or convincing anyone by way of those word choices?

I'm not out to change the world. I don't have lofty illusions that hordes of rabid leftists will read my posts and have 'Eureka moments,' realize the error of their ways, and convert, en masse, to Trump become supporters.

It's a Discussion Forum.

I'm discussing.

quote:
Your attempts to control the narrative, or battle their attempts - as you seem to be saying, are accomplishing nothing beyond twisting an otherwise accurate description. Those who are confused or who refuse to see aren't swayed by such linguistic nuances anyway. And just about everyone on the actual right agrees radical Islam is a huge problem.

I didn't realize I was trying to "Control the Narrative."

quote:
So who, exactly, do you think such language tricks, so to speak, are having a useful effect upon? Who is changing their mind based on whether or not this asshole and those like him are referred to as a lone wolf or not? What is the actual, practical, useful benefit of such a linguistic strategy? Can you cite any recent examples of its usefulness?

We are ALL talking to the choir here. I doubt any of us are truly 'on the fence,' coming here to get advice as to what ideology to believe in/support.

Maybe you need to chill a bit. This is a discussion board. We are discussing our opinions. Of course, our opinions are not all homogenous. You don't agree with me. Fine. I'm not going to lose sleep over it.

And expressing disagreement with others' opinions is part of discussion. Wink

Does anyone else think that maybe these "wifes" of some of these terrorists may be nothing more than the "honey trap" used to indoctrinate these guys. It's a pretty standard mechanism for a lot of cults. Here is some immigrant having lots of assimilation issues with american culture, probably can't get a date with a regular US gal and maybe doesn't fit in very well. Finds some compassion and inclusion at a mosque and then gets hooked up online with a gal. She then reinforces the message with lots of pleasure/reward and he gets hooked. From there he just gets further radicallized until he makes the big commitment to the cause. I am sure the federal authorities are investigating it, but I haven't heard to much speculation about it.

Probably not a good reference - people get killed by vehicles by the hundreds every day in the US. But - I understand where you are coming from.

Ironically, most of those killed were not citizens of NY, or the US for that matter.

What is the point of shitting on the populace of a city that just experienced another terrorist attack?

I wouldn’t call Islam a “cult,” but as we’re speculating, I believe the exact opposite is true more often. Mark Twain decried the fact that there’s no sexual activity in the Christian heaven, but Muhammad (or his interpreters) avoided that mistake. Islamic theology teaches that sex is a regular feature in paradise, and for someone who isn’t experiencing much of that here that would be part of a powerful inducement to get there as soon as possible by becoming a “martyr.” Islamic teachings place great stress on the pleasures of the afterlife, and I imagine this guy is very disappointed right now that he wasn’t killed by the police.

Didn't realize I shit on the inhabitants of NYC; I was commenting on politicians like Cuomo and DiBlassio and talking heads like Shep Smith lauding those "brave and tough" New Yorkers.

Although, now that I think of it, most of those I saw interviewed reminded me of talking fruit salad. I guess if I saw one of them tackle beard boy and the rest proceed to stomp him into a big pavement stain, I'd be impressed.

And by the way, I've been in more than one situation where there's been dead and dying laying around, if that makes you feel any better.

Can you imagine all those who are in a panic after Trump announces he wants the US to end the VISA program?

Take away my credit card? Over my dead ballot!

I’m surprise the Fake News industry isn’t all over this.

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

Just wait. Now that the “Russia stole the Election” mantra isn’t going anywhere, and the pending blow-up of the DNC because Hitlery “made them an offer they couldn’t refuse” story is catching fire, the next “Hey look, it’s a squirrel” diversion is being readied for the weekend news cycle.

So, just to be clear, your post mentioned the "residents" of NYC and now you say you meant the talking heads? Ok.

Yes, Dave. I did mention the residents of NYC, because that's who was being discussed.

You seem upset that I'm not particularly impressed by all things New York. Guess what? I'm not alone.

All things NY? No mesabi. You decided to criticize all NY'ers after a specific incident, then backtracked on the criticism and now are looking for support by claiming that you are not alone. Kind of weak.
