By saying "It was a Lone Wolf attack," they diminish the impact of what was done. For example, in NYC, they are essentially saying "Don't worry about more attacks; this was *just* a Lone Wolf." When, in fact, we SHOULD be concerned and take measures so that this doesn't happen again.

I think we've been attacked by enough wolves to say it's time to go on a wolf hunt. In the days when towns would see repeated attacks by wolves, they'd go on a wolf hunt, find the lair, and kill them all. If there are repeated attacks, there's a lair close by that needs clearing.

Although I agree that we should be concerned and attempt to take measures to forestall other such attacks, I don't believe it will ever be possible to insure that no more ever occur. The nature of this type of attack is inherently random and not susceptible to prior detection.

Bingo. It sounds crappy buy we will never stop it. It's part and parcell of living in a free society. Now I'm absolutely not advocating this as a "new normal", like the people who advocate sexual congress with farm animals for increased power, that is not a normal thing in a civilized society, but we must always be on the look out. And where we see it we must stomp it out.

Vigilance and education are far better then ignorance and incompetence.

Argument is an intellectual process. Contradiction is just the automatic gainsaying of anything the other person says.

I read all of your posts. I lived in an upstate college town in NY during 9/11. I woke up to friends and classmates who had family in those buildings freaking out before they fell. I can't explain to you the emotional scene in the student union building during and after the towers went down. We got to watch a collective part of us collapse into rubble live, before our very eyes. Hearing and seeing classmates completely lose their shit as they watched the building a parent or sibling worked in crumble changed me.

It's easy to sneer at things you don't understand. I'm not from New York, but I lived there long enough that your posts don't impress me. I'm sure I'm not alone. Hope you never live through something like this in your community, but if you do, maybe someday you'll understand. "Circle the wagons" and all that.
