Some people on here don't like the pick, but I think a majority of us support it, but hope it works out because it's like drafting in the MLB where half the time things don't pan out. That doesn't reflect on President Trump, so much as the uncertain nature of it all. With how many who have flipped over the years it is natural for people to say I'm happy, but fingers crossed. That's not the same as worrying or saying the sky is falling.

Yeah, the pick could end up being a chump, but it's far better than Hildabeast's first choice!!!!

Absolutely. On top of that I think he made the best pick possible. In a few years we may get Barrett as well.

I think I'll continue to do like I've done for nearly three years now: When it comes to something Trump is doing, I can use NPR as a reverse-barometer to tell me how well he did. Ya'll can wring your hands like the ninnies on NPR were this morning, if you like. One lady said, not once, but TWICE, "abortion rights are the very foundation of individual liberties in this country" I SHIT YOU NOT! They are freaking the fuck out, that one lady sounded like she was on the verge of tears. So how am I reacting? Calm blue ocean, baby. ______________________________________________ “There are plenty of good reasons for fighting, but no good reason ever to hate without reservation, to imagine that God Almighty Himself hates with you, too.”

I've been looking at his previous votes, positions and rulings. Despite some thinking he may not be the best pick, I'm honestly not seeing anything to dislike. On guns, he thinks assault weapons bans are unconstitutional. On abortion, he voted against forcing ice to release an illegal alien so she could get an abortion. On net neutrality, he's against letting the government control how internet companies run their business. There's a long paper trail on his positions, and he seems to interpret the Constitution as written. Unless I'm missing something.

I personally think he was the best pick from the list. Barrett is young and McConnell wanted Kethledge. I have my fingers crossed, but I'm excited.

Don't give him ideas! Gloria Allred? Sheesh! Please stop using "Conservative" for these Justices. A Supreme Court Justice should not rule based on either Liberal or Conservative ideology, but based on the content of the Constitution as Amended. I prefer the terms "Originalist", "Textualist", or "Constructionist". A person of those principles can be considered "conservative" (lower case "c"), but "Conservative" only serves to instantly call for opposition from Democrats. flashguy Texan by choice, not accident of birth

The leftists will go stark raving homicidal should Notorious RGB enter her long sleep anytime soon during the first term. If she survives to the Presidential election it will mean that much more to vote for Trump again, there is a SCOTUS pick on the line, cant let it go to the Left again! They still owe us Souter/Sotamayor's seat. HK Ag

If the dims go scorched earth on this pick, what'll they have left for the next one or two before Trump passes the baton to Pence? They won't take my advice, but they should save the hysterics for when it really matters, when "Sleepy" Ginsberg goes to sleep permanently.

Well obviously they are hoping to get some Senate seats in the 2018 elections, so that they can more easily block nominations. As it stands now if no Republican Senators vote against nominees, then the Democrats can't stop a confirmation. The problem is the Democrats would need to both block this nomination, AND take back a majority of the Senate. Most people who can play the odds would say the Democrsts are not likely to block this nomination if it can be done quickly, but have a slightly better chance at winning Senate seats this fall. That's why the current administration, and the Republicans in the Senate, are eager to vote on this nomination before the elections in November. If the Democrats take back the Senate it will be much more difficult for the current administration to get a confirmation on any nominee, not just to the Supreme Court. The Republicans are worried they will be shut down, just like what was done with the previous administration and Judge Garland. ___________________________________________ "He was never hindered by any dogma, except the Constitution." - Ty Ross speaking of his grandfather General Barry Goldwater "War is the remedy that our enemies have chosen, and I say let us give them all they want." - William Tecumseh Sherman

Naturally, there's got to be a conspiracy component to this choice. Here's Maddow and Tingles discussing how Trump picked Kavanaugh in the hope that he could help him avoid "looming" legal troubles. Right, yup, this had to be at the top of Trump's list of priorities. https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-m...?playlist=associated

I don't know that opinion, but I'd be willing to put a little money on it being less about abortion than it was about prisoners and the government's ability to control them. The fish is mute, expressionless. The fish doesn't think because the fish knows everything.

Gracie Allen is my personal savior! |
Good grief, if Madcow's nonsense doesn't reek of desperation...Kavanaugh wrote an article some time back saying that it would be best if the President were not subjected to criminal charges and lawsuits while in office simply because of the pace and volume of work at the White House. The solution he proposed was for Congress to write appropriate legislation, not for some sort of legal sophistry in a court decision. Apparently that means he was nominated for his "bias".

Kennedy is retiring and Kavanaugh is nominated. How about we move to the new thread about confirmation, Kavanaugh wooing Senators? Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me. When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown
