The company bought a couple of tricycles at auction recently. Great for cruising across the warehouse! (I wanted a golf cart, but....) Politicians seem to have forgotten that they work for us, not the other way around. — — — — — — — — — — — — God bless America.

Turns out, the 30t small ring for Dura Ace of that vintage is unobtanium, but I had one in my stash. I also found a modern Shimano 11 ~ 32t cluster, which after some slight modification was a perfect fit. I had a Ti seat post, an Ibis Ti stem and some Cinelli track bars for it. I much prefer track bars. Found Shimano Sora 3x9 levers and now I await the Sora front derailleur. I found one listed as in stock (now discontinued) on Amazon, but oops! Appears not in stock after all, but maybe it is and we'll let you know by the end of the month, but maybe not, but we'll let you know and BTW, it's $140 for a part that sold for $40 originally. I found one on Ebay, NIB and it's $30 including shipping, so once I get it in my hand, I will cancel the Amazon order. Not a fan of those types of business practices where they grab your $$ and are slow and uncaring about providing. Going through that with the touch-up paint as well. Eventually I will get them to send me the color I ordered but it's frustrating when people are clock watchers just phoning it in without care or concern. Color they sent wasn't in the ballpark. I even sent them the original code. So, in short, it's a labor of love and is coming together slower than anticipated but it is headed in the right direction. Also, came back to me with some true trash wire beaded tires. Couldn't strip them off fast enough. Replaced them with some Vittoria open pro's. Colombus ELOS tubing, wishbone seat stays and a master builder. Can't wait to test ride it.This message has been edited. Last edited by: Snapping Twig,

I'll go ahead and jump back in. I had posted my BMC Roadmachine on page 10. I have since changed the handlebars and tape and am now using a rear top-tube bag. In the late Summer of 2024, I purchased an Obed RVR. It's a good bike and I really like the color. My Roadmachine has Scribe 50mm deep wheels so I decided to try 60mm on the RVR. The RVR now also sports a rear top-tube bag but with blue trim.

going way back, my first bike was a canary yellow that I bought from Canadian tire and saved paper route and snow shoveling money for two years to buy - it was a whopping $125 in 1968 my second and last bike was a carbon-fiber Masi that I bought from Marina del Ray Bike and Cycle for about $3000 in 1982 (its probably long out of business by now) but it catered to distance cyclers and I wanted to ride from LA to San Diego and back hadn't thought about that bike in foreverThis message has been edited. First real bike was blaze orange Ross Barracuda in 1977. No idea what it cost my parents.

As a kid I remember learning on a Schwinn. Having a different bike with a banana seat. When I was 13 or 14 I had a bike stolen. At 15 1/2 I started to drive. No more bikes. It was a long time before I got another bike. I then bought a Fuji racing style bike for tooling around town. I had it for about 20 years. I junked it, I now have a Fuji lite-2 I ride occasionally.

911Boss, You are right! Aventon has definitely come a long way in the short time they have been around. I work at a local mom & pop bike shop that sells and services Aventon e-bikes. I’m the lucky guy who does most of the repairs on the e-bikes at our shop. The Ramblas is a superb e-mtb. One of my coworkers has one and he LOVES IT. Have you seen the new full suspension Aventon Current? It is a damn amazing bike for the money. I got to demo it along with Amflow’s newest rocket ship e-mtb. The Aventon is a hell of a lot closer to the Amflow than it is to Bosch. Aventon told us their goal is to become the Toyota of electric bikes. With the way they have been improving and reinvesting in better bikes as well as marketing their product they may well pull that off one day. Here is a pic of a Aventon Aventure 3 getting a new wiring harness and eventually different handlebars that are about 40-50mm higher. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The price of liberty and even of common humanity is eternal vigilance

Saw the Current, but just can’t justify the extra $1100 over the Ramblas. Like I said, it is a pavement bike for me so no need for the full suspension. In fact, I just ordered a set of Schwalbe Hurricane tires for the Ramblas hoping to reduce rolling resistance and increase performance when not using the assist. I don’t leave the assist on while riding, I just activate as needed when I approach hills or inclines. I was able to get over 100 miles to a charge on my Aventure which was only “rated” for a 40-45 mile average if I remember correctly. The Ramblas is advertised as “up to 90 miles” range so I am guessing I could get as much as 150 miles or more with my riding style. Will know better once I get out and do some longer rides. So far I am 30 miles into the initial charge and battery is still at 80%. Once I get on the longer rides I do better because there is more flat between the hills and more miles without assist. I have to come to grips with likely taking it in the shorts when I sell my $4000 Gazelle Ultimate. Only has 670 miles on it and I’m hoping to get at least $2500 for it but that is probably optimistic. Thankfully I’m not in a rush to sell it, but the longer it sits the less I can probably expect to get. What part of "...Shall not be infringed" don't you understand???

Ebike resale is a bit brutal. Good luck. On that subject my Ebike portfolio took a hell of a hit today. I own 3 e-bikes from the company Niner. Two full suspension E-MTB and one gravel bike. They all have Bosch gen4 motors and have been ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. Unfortunately today Niner closed up shop permanently. Link to article on Niner closing up shop. I got my first podium racing in the electric mountain bike class on a Niner e-bike. I’m sad to see they are yet another victim of this horrific economy. I almost posted up a pic of my Niner gravel ebike the other day as it’s been the bike I have been riding the most lately. I’ve been doing road rides with the local bike shop group on it and enjoying the hell out of this bike. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The price of liberty and even of common humanity is eternal vigilance

Decided to toss the Sora levers. Found some Dura Ace 7703 levers on Ebay, they looked pretty good, almost as if they didn't get used much. Also found a 7703 triple front derailleur, so I bought that too.Have to be honest, I was almost offended at the cheesy Sora overall quality and looks. Between them and 90's 7700 vintage Dura Ace, it's like comparing an Afghanistan hills built 1911 against a Nighthawk in terms of... everything. My touch-up paint finally arrived, got that going now and if the levers and derailleur get here, I can finish the build. Rode it a couple hundred yards the other day, just couldn't handle looking at it in the stand so close to done. Rides REAL nice! Eats up road buzz. EL OS steel is as advertised, supreme. Tossed my older XTR SPD pedals on it, they're silver and in excellent shape. Using Shimano carbon soled MTB shoes, so this should work out very well. Got Speedplays on the Serotta, the XTR's are similarly small and look right on the Cooper. I'm running my extra set of Vittoria Open Pro's on it for now, but if I can find them at a good price, I will replace them with a fresh set of Vittoria Corsa N.Ext 700x24c. Currently have 23c's and VERY little clearance for wider tires, but 1mm should be OK. Fingers crossed. Also, based on today's science, I will run my tube type road tires @ 90# as opposed to 110#. Should make the ride nicer too. So, that's the update. As soon as progress is made, I will post it + pics.

Due to balance issues, I have been riding a recumbent tadpole trike. Really like that I can get out on local trails and also do errands around town. Mine is a HP Velotechnik FS 26 Scorpion with class 2 electric assist. High quality German made trike. Going nutz looking at it on the stand, so I thought to check the wheel true, I had noticed the rear had a minor out of true. Got out the truing stand and the dishing tool, set it up and easily did the minor correction for true, then I did the dish. It was @ 3~4mm out, so I did that correction - perfect. Reset the rear brake center. Stretched the spokes, checked true again and all's well. Parts - levers and front derailleur here by Wed. next week if not before. Then I can finish it up. Trying to decide on where the shake-down ride will be.

A little over a week on the new bike. 94.6 miles and 3571’ of elevation gain on the initial charge and still have 48% left on the battery. Swapped over to road tires yesterday and it makes the pedaling a LOT easier given the lighter weight and less rolling resistance. Put a Thule rear rack on it and I am waiting for new bars with a little more rise (50mm vs stock 33mm). Totally loving it! Did 25 miles with almost 950’ elevation gain on Monday, only used assist for about 3.5 miles on the steeper portions. Hopefully I will manage another 1000 or more miles on it over the summer and fall before the weather turns. My longest ride since returning to biking a few years back is a touch over 80 miles 4 years ago before I went electric. Would like to redo that ride on this bike and maybe stretch it to 85 or 90 miles. Battery won’t be a limiting factor, but my rear end might be… What part of "...Shall not be infringed" don't you understand???
