Cognizant of the fact that no one yet has an answer, I ask- what happens now?

I’m sure some people will just start putting stocks on, short barrel uppers on, and 3D printing suppressors immediately after midnight central time. But I’m also sure a lot of FFLs are going to be waiting on official guidance before that actually sell a can/SBR/SBS with just a 4473. Then there’s clarification needed on some state laws too.

Me, I’m going to bed happy and see how things shake out tomorrow.

It's almost too good to be true. The idea that I don't have to fill out silly forms with questions such as "Total volume in deciliters of the firearm, if it were made of water."

I just saw a post that the local gun store 3 miles from my house will be open at midnight. The owner is a retired police officer, definitely Pro 2A and he is not waiting.

I've had a wait and see attitude as I've been thinking it's too good to be true. All of a sudden, I have the impulse to do a cash and carry sale. I'm out of town or I'd go in there tonight. I have half a mind to start the 4 hour drive right now.

It very much depends on individual state law. I know some Republican states had laws that prohibit SBRs or Silencers with an Affirmative Defense that if you have a federal tax stamp they are legal. In those states, they will have to change local laws before you can do anything fun. They did so here in Tennessee three years ago, so I believe we are free to manufacture or transfer them, as of midnight. As always, check someplace authoritative on your state laws.

Considering Silencer Shop and Brandon Herrera are in TX, you are probably gtg there, too. As for the other 48 states, I simply don’t know. I’m sure places like GOA will have comprehensive guides up in the next few days.

Me, I’m ordering VZ-61 kits online and sitting tight for a few days.

Silencer Shop says in 27 states can buy a suppressor now and take it home, after filling out a 4473 same as a firearm. They also say SBRs and SBSs fall under the GCA, they weren't under the most recent NFA lawsuit, and you still need a Form 4.

Uh huh. Back to the deciliters.

They say one thing, others say something else. I'm not surprised.

TWENTY-SEVEN 'Free States'...

I just threw caution out the window and punched thru a big silencer order at Silencer Shop. They will have to ship it to my local dealer in Oklahoma. We'll see if I can get out the door without a bunch of delays and paperwork!

I'm not doing it sans a Form 4. I'll wait and see. No one is getting rich off this stuff, so it's not worth the headache of having to retroactively correct it or hope the next audit overlooks it because it was during a gray area.

I imagine their IT guys will need to be making some changes to the site to allow that. There's all kinds of backend stuff that'll need to get figured out, and with a quickness. SilencerShop is about to make a shit-ton of money.

When my SOT expired (I renewed it early, but it took two weeks to process), I couldn't even view NFA stuff on my distributors' sites when logged in. I was blocked. I can see how Silencer Shop feels a little emboldened since they were a plaintiff here. But others are probably in a holding pattern.

I'm not volunteering to slow anything down. It's going to a dealer that is already loaded in their dealer network, that I have done business with and is 3 miles from my house. I want this to go fast and smooth. I'm thinking Silencer Shop will be selling out of a lot of items within hours if this proves to work. I don't want anything delaying this order.

Edit: I'm interested in the answer to your question, but not willing to slow anything down to find out the answer. Also, if for some reason I have to fall back into a Form 4 situation, it's an easy pivot with my current dealer.
