Never liked this grifter, but watching the video of him wounding and then failing to kill this beautiful elephant turns my stomach. I respect hunters who bring down game which they then consume, but this asshole trophy hunter fails to kill the downed elephant even from just a few feet away.... Mad Mad Mad

You ever wonder what level of smug it takes to reach full WLP? Who doesn’t hate the POS?

Wayne, you know after flying, we have to re-sight the optics, did you zero your rifle before we headed out?

The hunt occurred in 2013....sigh...almost eight years ago and the NY post is dragging it up now to paint WLP in a bad light...

I’m not speaking to his shooting of an elephant or his lack of accuracy. you are being played by the media.

And I don’t like WLP.

Well, first off that NYPost article reads like a sob story written by bunny huggers. Hunting elephants is legal and many elephants are still culled due to localized overpopulation. I have no problems with ethical hunting of elephants. Just because it's a trophy to Luh Pierre, doesn't mean it's not food to the locals. That elephant will feed local villagers for a long time. And the income from paid hunting brings in a lot of money for the locals as well.

As far as bumbling the shot, he dropped it with the first shot. That's a huge animal and given its skin, it might be hard to see where the follow up impacts were. There's not a hunter on this board that hasn't had to pump a round or two or three more into something at some time.

The professional hunter seems a little half assed to me, though.

I don't like Luh Pierre much either. But I don't see anything really wrong with what he did.

The Post has its own agenda, but it doesn't matter to me whether the hunt happened yesterday or eight years ago. It's LaPierre. Basically torturing a magnificent animal to puff up his ego. For me, it's one more thing to despise about this con man.

I'm not a bunny hugger. I lived among elephants in Sri Lanka, India and Nepal. You can't live with them and not admire their intelligence and their sense of humour. I could tell you stories. And their strength, if you have ever seen one enraged, is mind blowing. If an elephant and Wayne were going over a waterfall and I could only save one....

Nothing in this video proves anything. It was edited to present a liberal, anti gun and anti-hunting narrative. We have no context and no way of knowing anything about the encounter.

Surprised to see it show up here, actually. Lapierre may be a pos, but not because of anything in this video.

Ooh, LaPierre "dirt", from 8 years ago, unearthed by The Trace and The New Yorker, The Secret Footage of the N.R.A. Chief’s Botched Elephant Hunt. LaPierre has tried to keep it a secret all these years. And, the mass hates him more. Roll Eyes

I am sure the slant of the article is pure bedwetter anti hunting propaganda.

That said, I have zero sympathy for that fraud WLP.

8yrs ago or not, he is an insufferably embarrassing and pampered POS who needs to disappear forever.

If he ever did anything useful it's been ages.

Get rid of the bumbling fool, yesterday.

Well, this is kinda silly, and, to us, simply another anti-NRA, guns or anti-2A hit piece.

But WLP is such a jerk, that I (NRA Life) will never give another penny to the NRA nor upgrade my membership till he's gone. My wife, an annual member for the past 8 (IIRC) years dropped her membership completely.

I used to love the NRA, been an annual member from the time I was 14 or 15 (again, IIRC) and became a Life member in the 80s except I did not belong for the nearly 4 years I was in the military back in the 60s.

I was so annoyed that he had a wardrobe (250k?) that the members paid for. Now I wonder if the members paid for this safari.

I want to, and hope to support them again-I just don't like being fleeced.

Ogie, I think you are right.

But, I just can't make myself send money to them when I suspect WLP is still dipping into some, or most or, at least too much of what's being sent in by regular folks like me.

I support the NRA and will continue to do so. But Wayne has to go and the so does the huge, overpopulated board.

While I totally agree with resighting after traveling, his shots where so short distance, this slight misalignment on an extremely large target where negligible. Iron sights might have been a better choice.

It matters not if it is an 8yr old WLP video being an idiot or a 12yr old Obama being a dumbass video, either one is just fuel for the "I told you so" fire, and rightly so. Where the NRA was once OUR 800lb gorilla, WLP has taken the knees out from under it single handedly and is a prime example of being our own worst enemy. Wayne is the face of the NRA and his problems are also by default the 2A communities problems. That he has not the honor to bow out gracefully for the good of millions of NRA supporters shows the character of the man. If the NRA BOD will not use their power to remove him, reform the institution, and and work to earn back the trust and faith of their membership, fuck em! I have no sympathy.
