My favorite marketing fiasco is Abercrombie & Fitch's Asian-themed tees that came out in 2002, featuring characters with slant-eyes and rice paddy hats. When that happened, my friend emailed me a news article stating how A&F was about to pull their shirts amid uproar in the Asian community. I was like, "I've got to get those shirts!" I tried to buy some online at their site. My order went through, but sadly, I never received a confirmation email, my account wasn't charged, and I never got my shirt order.

Later on, I scored one off of eBay: "Wok N' Bowl." It's one of my favorite and rarest shirts. I only wear it on special occasions.

One of the biggest in recent years was Starbucks thinking that having baristas lecturing customers on race relations was a good idea:

It is reassuring to know that some people are not overly sensitive and can joke about the studpidity of others.

My Irish immigrant grandfather told the best Irish jokes, and my sister's unbelievably-hot Chinese friend told a couple epic Chinese jokes.

The ad campaign I thought was a big miss is the one for the Patek Philippe watch where their slogan is: "You never actually own a Patek Philippe. You merely look after it for the next generation."

But, they've been using it for many years now so I guess it works.

I heard this ad was considered a mistake, but I'm not sure why. Razz
