Reading these reponses makes me very happy I live in Mississippi. Very little talk of mask wearing and the like. Beaches were full this weekend, the casinos did a nice business. Having been forced to read The Prince in college, I think I can understand. Even when the Governor declares a state of emergency such as during a Major Hurricane, the cops do not drag people off the streets. The National Guard generally has a laid back attitude as well.

Our daughter told the wife that she just heard it on the radio. I am checking to see if I can find anything on it. Found it. https://www.washingtonexaminer...wear-masks-in-public Elk There has never been an occasion where a people gave up their weapons in the interest of peace that didn't end in their massacre. "Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam (D) announced Tuesday that residents will be required to wear a mask inside public places beginning Friday as part of an effort to combat further spread of the Chinese coronavirus. Northam said in a press conference that people must wear masks “anywhere people can congregate” inside, including retail spaces, government facilities, and public transportation. Masks will also be required in restaurants, except while patrons are eating. Residents won’t have to wear a mask during exercise, and children 9-years-old and younger are exempt from the rule. “I am taking this step because science increasingly shows us that the virus spreads less easily when everyone is wearing face coverings,” said the governor. The new mask mandate will not be enforced by police, but by Virginia’s health department, explained Northam. “I’m not sure we need to get into specifics of what authority, at this stage,” he responded when pressed on how the state health officials will enforce the rules. “The criminal code is not the place you want this enforced, there are tremendous equity issues with enforcing this that we’re cognizant of,” added Clark Mercer, Northam’s chief of staff." https://www.breitbart.com/poli...mandatory-in-public/ "I’m not going to read Time Magazine, I’m not going to read Newsweek, I’m not going to read any of these magazines; I mean, because they have too much to lose by printing the truth"- Bob Dylan, 1965

So, it's not a law. "Mandates" are issued by foreign royalty, not elected officials in the United States.

It's not a law yet but it sounds like they're planning to try and make it law.

Well, until that time, he can just shove his "mandate" as far up his narrow ass as he can get it. Even then, this strikes me as unconstitutional.

This mask bullshit is political window dressing mandated by ONE political party, and only ONE. And there is only one reason why they're doing this, and it is to put the fear of death into the voters, they want as much CHAOS possible to lead up to the election. Public health and safety has zero to do with this. Doing much better here in Wisc. after our Supreme court slapped down the dumbass democratic governor we have and allowed the state to open up. And we're getting a nice influx of money from Michigan and Illinois as they too have dumbass governors and their citizens are coming to Wis. to spend $$.

They are using the gestapo (aka health department) to force businesses to require it on entry. They know they can't make me and you do it, but they can bully businesses into making you comply if you want to buy their stuff. If the business gets caught letting you in without a mask, the health department will shut them down, and the state will revoke their licenses to operate. You don't have to control the population, you just have to control where they go. If you still have a republican legislature, whether or not your state has went full retard, you might out to speak to your elected state officials to put some legislative controls on the health department and their "authority". If not, you can bank on this being the first of many public health emergencies, real or imagined like this one.

The wife and I are in Norfolk/VA Beach area with our daughter in law who is ready to give birth (son is off at Navy OCS). The articles linked here say the "order" applies to VA residents. Since I'm not a Virginia resident, I guess I don't have to comply.

You don't have to comply at all. It's not a law.

So what are the specifications for this mandated face covering? Will a pillow cover with eye, nose, and mouth openings work? That's all I have. In the likely event I cannot find or afford your state mandated mask specifications will the state provide the approved mask to me? In the likely event I cannot leave my house because I can't possibly meet the states mandates listed above will the state provide burial services for me? Time for common sense folk to dogpile this shit.

Reading this crap makes me even more thankful to be in Texas. Things seem to be getting back to the "old" normal rapidly. I stopped at my favorite bagel shop this morning and I was the only customer with a mask. While it made me a little self-concious, I was actually glad to see it. The wife and I are in our 70's with "co-morbidities" (not overweight), so we wear a mask when in close contact areas. But it sure feels good to see others who are younger not wearing them. The good: Being retired, this fiasco has had very little impact on our lifestyle. The bad: Being "elderly" and seemingly, a totally useless blight to the younger generation, we will probably not able to get back to total normal quite as rapidly as the whipper-snappers.

Eye on the Silver Lining |
I was just in Texas (Austin) a week or so ago, and they were far more laid back than MN. It was nice to get away, reset, enjoy a lunch in a restaurant, and see people carrying on with normal life (of course, the heat helped-MN is still chilly compared to Texas). Some were wearing masks and some weren’t. I had to have one to fly, so I brought mine along, and followed the “when in Rome” principal. The family I visited had no draconian measures in place, and I wasn’t worried. Wash your hands, don’t sneeze or cough on anyone, and join the world. As an individual, it’s nice to see places opening back up. As a business owner, it’s frustrating to watch all you’ve worked for collapse around you while you feel like the only foundation holding things up, and struggle to comply with all the bs fearmongering in order to make people feel safe. We are trying so hard to balance. Mentally there is going to be a reckoning- for a lot of people. __________________________ "Trust, but verify."

That's never stopped Blackface Baby-killah Coonnmmaan. He'll decree it, the DoH will enforce it, some poor sod will be closed because of it, and the BBkC posse will spend an unlimited amount of tax revenue defending it. I am willing to bet a gun store, gun show, or indoor range will be among the first targets for enforcement. Nice is overrated "It's every freedom-loving individual's duty to lie to the government." Yeah, our area made the national news. Not much "social distancing" to be found on the Lake. I am not surprised. We had to go out shopping Friday for our family gathering. We went to a huge supermarket (Hyvee) in Osage and that parking lot was absolutely full. I swear, two thirds of the cars there were from out of state. New York, Chicago, Wisconsin, Minnesota (I guess they don't have any lakes in Minnesota), Florida. These people were here to party and party together they did. The locals actually do a good job of distancing themselves when out and about, very few wear masks but they are good with that. No, the tourists were here to gather and party and that is what they did. Me? I and most others stay home during the big weekends of summer. .....never marry a woman who is mean to your waitress.
