Sorry and good luck. I remember when I was a kid, my dad lost his sales job. He had a little black book of all his clients info ( long before computerized stuff) and walked right down the street to a competitor and got hired right away. He told me at the time people don’t by things from x company, they buy them from me, and he ran the old company out of town essentially selling to all his usual customers.

Thank you guys for the prayers and comments. I had a track weekend at Virginia International Raceway that I had to leave for on Friday evening so my weekend was crazy. I spent today negotiating severance, working on my Resume/LinkedIn, talking to a consultant, and trying to get my life in order and process everything. I totally have faith this is in God's plan and He will have something better than I can imagine in store for me.

I've already put out feelers to close friends/colleagues that would possibly have open sales roles at their employer or know people who know people.

I've done sales in various industries from electronic component distribution, retail security products, industrial sales, and retail preventative maintenance contracts and a bit of SaaS. I'm looking for either a National Account Manager role, senior sales role, or sales manager/leadership. I'm open to different industries and have changed with each career move but I learn/adapt quickly. I've also done a ton of new business development, could probably write book on cold calling and prospecting but in the last 2 positions have had a nice mix of new business development and account management. I love helping customers solve their complex problems and working on value solutions.

I appreciate the insights and seem to handling this a lot better than I expected. Part of that is being debt free with a 6 month emergency fund. It would have been panic for me 4 years ago.

Best wishes for a new position that fits your circumstances. Sounds like you have a good resume that some company will snap you up.

I was last laid off at 58 years old. Came out of it with a much higher paying position. Hang in there.

I hope your next job is so god that when your former employer tries to hire you back you just laugh at them.
No take backs.
They knew what they were doing when they let the "new boss" let you go to eliminate the threat you posed to his position. He'll screw it up

That right there is going to get you into another position really fast. Really fast. If you don't already have them get references from your best clients. If I were to place a bet you'll be in a better job making more money. Good sales people are actually pretty scarce. You'll be fine but I'm still sending good thoughts your way.

Totally the case. Get a little exercise and fresh air. De-stress a bit. Then get the out there and sell yourself. You got this! If I was in sales, I'd try to connect with an AI startup. They are dripping in VC cash right now.

SIG4EVA nothing like a weekend at VIR to set your head straight! Concentrating at high speed to hit your marks and (hopefully) pass those slower guys can be very rewarding. I have two friends who are both surgeons (one ortho and the other neuro) and they say that going to the track is the only thing that requires more concentration than their work and they love the reset they get by doing it (as did I).

Keep plugging, you’ll be fine.

SIG4EVA, I'm sorry to hear this. I will smoke my next round of tasty meats in your honor. Head up, you will bounce back from this.

Don't be afraid to go to the unemployment office if you haven't done so already. You pay into it and this is what its there for. Better than digging into your savings even if its a week or two.

I love that! I'll be smoking up some meats in the freezer to save some money too. Time to put more into my instagram #southernsmokelab. I think I'll do a BBQ slaw and a pork butt.

I had experienced this in my past, twice. I read into this part, "the new VP of Sales took over" as the source of this grief. Likely just someone new trying to piss on their territory and make it their own, or to hire a friend (ask me how I know). Their mistake, and I wish you patience and faith.

Funny, I've also had this happen twice already. First time, I was able to get out and shove it in his smug face. This time though, the new VP ghosted me and one of the worst sales people was the one he took advice from. Appreciate it!

Current update:

1. 1st Severance offer was essentially my bonus due in April, 3 weeks of pay, and out placement. I negotiated this to my full bonus, 2 months of pay, and 3.5 months of COBRA. I didn't want to push too hard since there isn't any requirement for them to offer severance, but they accepted pretty fast indicating they know they did my wrong.

2. Through faith, I am still very positive even though I think I should pissed/depressed. I have an interview with the outplacement firm to work on my resume and LinkedIn. I've already updated my LinkedIn but want it reviewed by a professional.

3. This is my week to regroup, work on resume/LinkedIn and some house projects. I'll hit the road hard next week with applying. I've already put out feelers to my close network but need to get an updated resume in their hands. I'm also working on a handbill and referral letter to make it easier for them to refer me.

Thank you for the thoughts and prayers. The real fun starts soon.

Don't be disheartened if you don't get job offers right away. Having just come off a 6 month voluntary unemployment spell after leaving my last job, I can attest that hiring is a whole lot slower these days compared to before. Longer from application to interview (or rejection), longer interview processes, longer from interview to offer, etc.

A friend advised me last year to expect a job search to last 1 month for every $10k in anticipated salary. I thought they were out of their mind. Turns out, they were pretty close. (Though obviously that can vary greatly, based on location/industry/ etc.)

Your OP made me angry at your old company, then your explanation of a new boss taking advice from the biggest dip explained it.

Ain't fair, but I believe your faith will see you through what is obviously a trial and you'll come out better off.
