Electrics handle stop and go duty cycles better than IC. Been that way for a long time. (Large scale plants have used golf carts for that reason for a long time. As have golf courses. The tech just now works for urban duty cycles. Charleston is a “bit” of a stretch for my Tesla. Miami Beach completely makes sense for electric.

The depreciation is rough but as long as you buy one, with the intent to keep it long term or lease it at the artificially low rates Tesla charges, it still makes sense.

One acquaintance of mine, years ago, was buying used Nissan Leafs, for almost nothing, as his work commuter, because nothing else really held up well to 16 miles a day of driving.

If he was charging it at Tesla stations vs at home then depending on the cost per Kwh it could be comparable to ICE fuel costs.

Charging at home, especially in most power company deals you can get a discount or lower rates at specific times for the EV to charge resulting in a significantly lower cost to operate than ICE.

The one thing I find is people who've never owned one who just question if it works or make statements that any type of justification by an EV owner on the cost of operation are some how making up the information. They make assertions based on personal ideas and have zero experience with an EV or Hybrid.

I find quite a few EV owners leave out important details and make ridiculous comparisons to justify their decisions. Some stretch the truth as well.

I agree. I never owned a 100% EV but I owned two Hyundai Sonata hybrids. I found a key to maximize your mileage or slow, gradual, steady acceleration; anticipate stops; Taking your foot off the gas so you reduce your speed so you never really have to hit your brakes. Come to a complete 100% stop. AVERAGED 45mpg

Dead? Polestar is (in the U.S., at least).

The Drive

I own a plug in hybrid and an all electric car. I have solar with battery back up. It all costm a bundle that I should be able to recover over the next 200 years. I am very happy I don't have to depend on the grid or the stupid asses in the petroleum industry.

I find the ability to power my future E dirt bikes and dual sports solely from power coming from my personal solar array and battery back up to be INCREDIBLY alluring.

Consider this is coming from someone who LOVES two stroke motorcycles….

We power our two EVs from our solar panels and batteries. Run our AC 24/7 during the summer and our electricity bill is $15-$20 a month.

Mercedes EQS 450 and my Mustang Mach E.

I will state for the record once again-EVs will not save the planet and they won’t work for everyone.

I hated the fact they were trying to mandate that everyone had to buy one by a certain year.

I’m not trying to change anybody’s mind. Buy any vehicle that works for you….
