It happens I agree with Dr. Becker. Thus my pointing out that a vasectomy or tubal ligation is a much better alternative. Unfortunately at times some family members will just drone on about all the "benefits" of removing the sex organs instead of actually listening to reasons why it is so harmful. Facts, remove the ovaries or testicles and the dog won't get testicular or ovarioan cancer. What the vets won't tell you is there are many Cancers that the dog will be at much higher risk for due to the removal of the sex organs. Personally I have never had any of my dogs "fixed" with one exception, my Lab/Terrier mix developed testicular cancer at 12 years of age and his testicles were removed. He lived for two more years after that and his passing was due to issues with Arthritis and two bad disks in his back. I had to put him to sleep simply because he was in constant pain and when he no longer wanted to go for a walk I knew it was time. I've stopped counting. | |||
