Bald1, did you do the mini split thing you talked about a few months ago. I do not remember an end to the thread you ran. I hope so and you are comfortable in the heat.

At age 82 I remember this happening every year this time. It’s a climate effect called “Summer”.

Yes the mini split got installed. Big difference. Something I should have done years ago.

I am glad to hear that you are pleased with your mini-split system. They sure do a great job for me here in Az.

They are nice, we have several. However, recent supply chain issues hit us when the fan motor bearing started failing in one of them. Our reliable, trusted vendor was unable to obtain a new bearing, a new motor, or a new head unit. We ended up installing a complete new unit, compressor and all.

They are wonderful units, though. Cooling where you need it with a cost savings due to the variable speed compressors.

When in doubt, mumble

Here in southern Colorado we had a week in June where it didn't get above 75, and a cooler then average May. So, this recent heat wave is just paying the piper. I find the older I get the more I have trouble with the heat.

Folks may think that the northern states don't see triple digit heat but we do. Thankfully the norm is only one or two successive days over 100°F.

Forecast for tomorrow (Monday) is between 103°F and 105°F depending on the meteorologist.

July last year was miserable with 5 days in a row of triple digit heat. House guests all got sick as I had nothing but fans... no AC. It is what pushed me over the edge to have a 3 ton Mitsubishi mini-split system installed.

The all time high here was 111°F on July 15, 2006. And yes, I've lived here since 1994.

More recent annual highs:

I hate hot weather just as much as the next guy, but the measurement just don't add up to this is happening more.

If you smoothed out the data the number of really hot days have been falling for the last 90 years or so.

And most folks think of Florida as the hottest place in the known universe, but the all time high here in Tampa is 99 and I can count one one hand the number of times I’ve experienced triple digit temperatures elsewhere in the state (in 40 plus years).

I went riding today. Put the suit on, gear, checked PSI, out. Commute to twisties is about 25 minutes. So about 60 minutes into my ride, and 35 minutes of railing corners hard the middle of my back feels like it is on fire. My first gas station stop I pull into the shade and hit a liquid IV in a water bottle I brought. Down that, get back at it. Section 2 of my route, it’s getting worse so I elect to make it a 9 hole day instead of 18. Hit some more corners, pull into another gas station and down a 32 oz no sugar Gatorade then ride home. About a 2 hour ride instead of 3-4. 100 degrees doesn’t bother me much suited up. I do it every year. It’s usually good as it rids the the roads of traffic. And the knucklehead groups that will go out there, pin it all day in a group of 20 and 5.0 the entire area.

But this was way different than I have ever experienced in my riding life. I get home and ask Siri the temp outside, 106. Uh, yeah, that’s why I felt like I was in an oven. Right now I feel like I spent the entire day on the lake on my ski and I was on the bike only 2 hours. If August is going to be like this I’m not riding until mid September. I can put up with 100, 101, 102 but not this. Hottest day I’ve ever been on a bike in my life. The straps on my boots came apart. New ones are $499. The painted or logo’d Alpinestars on my leathers, rubbed off some too. I left that last gas station and when I thumbed the starter it was all white. Look at my left glove, white, gloves had that white stuff on them. I mean it was so got damn hot my boots came apart. They are 10 years old but shit. This is crazy.

What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

Yep. We broke 100 in mid June last year and it stayed there for the rest of the summer. It was miserable.

Looks like we'll be breaking the record high for today (106 - 1983) given it is already 105 at noon. Frown

In Pensacola this week. Don't think it got over 90* today.
Still hot & am slightly lobster-ish after all day on the beach.

Back at it tomorrow, hoping to hit the beach early enough to catch the Blue Angels flyby.

Forecast for Houston was >100 all week. Picked the right week for a vacation
