...and some wonder why I never could be a snow-bird. Big Grin

Even your winters down there are brutal to me. I simply can't tolerate high heat and humidity.

Wow! That is hot, not to mention the humidity Houston must have. I usually anticipate a really hot day here when the thermometer breaks 100 by 10am. When that happens, it usually goes on up to 105-110 in the afternoon.

After my Dad got his private pilots' license, he sort of became an amateur meteorologist. One thing he pointed out to me was you could tell the humidity of any area by looking at the high and low temps. Humidity keeps the spread very small. Dry heat, like we have here, often shows a spread of 30 or 40 degrees between high and low. Your humidity is to blame for waking up to 100+.

There are many things to admire about Texas.

The heat is not one of them.

I'll deal with the snow and freezing temperatures, thanks.

Last night we sat on the back porch for a bit. It was 8:30 pm. Still 91 outside.

News being broadcast here says you Tejas folks have been warned to cut back on your electric usage Monday afternoon or face potential brown outs. Yikes!

Damn Doc that sucks. You think it is broken or just that it got overworked and needs a short rest?

Don't know, I'm embarrassed to say. I'll have my trusty A/C guy come out and check it out. Maybe it just needs some refrigerant infused.

No thank you. I’ve lived in South Georgia. That was bad enough. Virginia Augusts often get 100 degrees with 100% humidity, but that’s not what makes it awful here

It’s the spring and fall. I can’t tolerate when it’s 20 in the morning and 70 in the afternoon. I’d much rather 91 in the morning and 107 in the afternoon. The temperature swings is what kills me. I had a VA doctor tell me this area was the worst place in the world to live if you had orthopedic issues

8 more years. And I’m moving back to Hawaii.

Since it's upstairs I'm going to assume your family is good to go on the main floor though with AC.

I made a first voyage thru Amarillo about 30 years past. While no stranger to 100+ temps, it seemed so hot there lead was on the verge of melting.

Had spent a night in a Branson hotel a few day before. The large swamp cooler in the room was totally ineffective but sometimes would spit droplets of hot water out as a sort of joke it seemed. I felt like the last kielbasa in the crock pot.

I worked one summer in Hells Canyon and saw the unofficial thermometer hit 126 at 4PM, after the sun went below the rim wall.

Around here, the Snowbirds show up for our winter and leave as soon as the temp hits around 75 degrees.

Sorry for you TX people suffering. Lived there (Houston area) off and on for 20 yrs before moving to NC. My girls (24 and 21) are still there though.

I recall 2013 I think it was where the temps were 100+ for the whole month, but that was August! Hang in there.

Yeah could be anything.
Ours (only 5 years old) was doing the same and all it was a capacitor for the outside unit.
Not expensive fix.
Low freon can cause a freeze but that means there is a leak somewhere and just filling it won't be enough.
Ours went out five years ago as I eluded to .... in AUGUST .... and it took a miserable week to get a new one installed.
I bought a portable AC from Home Depot to get us through ... it helped but it was only mildly miserable inside with that unit.
I now use it in my garage every day I am in it.

The summer we moved here, 2018, it was over 100° for something like 45 days in a row.

I spent a long hot summer in San Antonio. The A/C went out sometime during the day. It was 110 inside when I got home.

Since moving to the Ft Worth area 5 years ago, this has been the longest run of 100+ degree days. Last weekend, we went shooting at a friend's property in W. Texas and it was so hot, I couldn't pick up my brass, didn't have any gloves.

I have to admit that I'll take this rather than the Feb. freezes. And this summer is the most I have been in my pool since moving here.

It is pretty hot in DFW area as well with 100+ daytime temps for quite a stretch with more predicted. Thankfully the humidity is fairly low most days. I'm not required to be outside other than getting in my truck and cranking the AC up, or dashing into a store or the gym so I've learned to tolerate it pretty well. If I've got some little outside chores to do, they are done my 10 am where it's mid 80's. We do need some rain, my water bill is much higher than normal.

Nothing new though. A quick look up showed:

100+ degree days DFW
-Most in a calendar year: 71 (2011)
-Fewest in a calendar year: 0 (1973, 1906)
-Most consecutive: 42 (Jun 23 - Aug 3, 1980)
-Most in a month: 31 (Jul 1980)

We had only 8 in all of 2021.
