And, it's just starting. How hot was it today? Leaving work at almost 7, at IAH (Bush Airport), and it was 108! That's the actual temp and not the "feel like". Yesterday was 104 at 7, and I thought it can't get worse than that. Wrong!
This year, there have been many days at triple digits, more than I ever recall. And they just don't go up and come down quickly but remain sustained. Then, add the humidity to it and double the misery. Electric bills are through the roof.

Central TX is pretty rough right now, too. Went for a run yesterday at 5:15pm and it was 104. Not ideal. I was sure to take water. I also drink extra water throughout the day to prep.

I’m 60 and have lived in DFW area my whole, including the 1980 hell, but this summer is shaping up to be absolutely miserable. By Thursday we will have already hit our “normal for the entire summer” quota of 100+ degree days. It pretty much got hot really early in the second week of May, very early, and has stayed that way. I shudder to think it could stay this way until October. We were talking today that it was really sad that 102 today felt considerably better than the 106 a couple of days ago. Typically last week of July and first week of August are the hottest of the year. Geez…
Close to Galveston Bay. The water tends to moderate it a bit. So we typically don't see the highs that the concrete jungle gets. Still was 103 here today.

Back when I was on active duty (I can hear my kids chorus, "When dinosaurs roamed the earth!) on the fringes of Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, we'd run/walk/crawl 3 miles every afternoon.
It took some getting used to for a bunch of squids.

I remember living in Dallas during the summer of 2011. In July of that year, it never dropped below 101 degs F (at night) and the worst couple of days it reached 123 degs F in the afternoon. Yes, the roads buckled and I never could get used to the waviness of the soil there, nor its effect on driving. Not to mention the lack of paint on things.
I've also lived in pretty humid environments (e.g. DC) and I'd much rather take a 98 deg day with high humidity than an afternoon (w/dry heat) above 120 degs. Trust me, you quickly feel sick walking in the latter, in distances as short as a couple hundred ft.

I HATE the heat. For some unexplainable reason I’ve lived in and around Fort Worth my whole life. I was only 10 during the hell that was summer of 1980, but I remember it. This doesn’t seem any better.
