I’ve been watching different sports coverage, and I find it fascinating that they are using so many drones in their shows. You can often see the shadows of the drones and frequently the machines themselves.

Given the number of drones in use, the organizing committees must have hired several companies and many operators to fly those things. Clearly the use of drones have a place in society now, and not for just snooping at female sunbathers nor military kamikaze machines.

At the 2026 Winter Olympics, the U.S. mixed doubles curling team of Cory Thiesse and Korey Dropkin has started with a perfect 4-0 record, marking the best start for a U.S. curling team in Olympic history. They defeated Norway (8-6), Switzerland (7-4), Canada (7-5), and Czechia (8-1).

They take on undefeated Great Britain and South Korea on Saturday, and Estonia and Sweden on Sunday.

Just curious, where would someone find a curling facility in the U.S. to watch and/or learn?

Hell there's a curling club here in Rapid City. Smile

Biathlon is always a favorite. Any of the sliding sports (Bob, luge, skeleton). I've always enjoyed ski jumping and speed skating. The various downhill events are good although I'm not as fond of the snow boarding events.

Hockey was better before the dream teams of pro athletes.

Seems Lynsay Vonn isn't as wise as her years. It's nature's way of telling you somethings wrong. I saw skiers in their healthy prime and what demands the course and the event placed on them, and I thought how could someone without full capabilities do well. She wiped out big time and assuredly sustained career ending injuries.

Vonn shouldn't have been in this Olympics in the first place. She has a torn ACL, and thinks she can compete with the best of the world. That shows arrogance on her part and the coaches of team USA.

It seems pride goeth before the fall:

Right out of the gate, Vonn faced criticism of her motivations, her perceived selfishness, even her mental state. Olympic gold medalist Franz Klammer declared that “She's gone completely mad,” and that was one of the kinder critiques.

But Vonn simply kept skiing, and soon enough, she began climbing the standings of World Cup events. She blew right past U.S. Ski and Snowboarding’s metrics for judging potential Olympic team members, first climbing onto podiums, and then claiming two more World Cup victories.

Along the way, she metamorphosed from a cute story and the centerpiece of NBC’s Olympic coverage into a legitimate medal threat. Ranked sixth in the World Cup standings just a week before the Games began, Vonn seemed like she was on the verge of a story that defied even fairytales.

And then: disaster. Just one week before the Opening Ceremony, on a Swiss slope that had already seen several wrecks, Vonn pinwheeled off the course and into a barrier. She limped to her feet, the agony on her face evident, and required airlifting from the course. Soon afterward, doctors told her that she’d completely torn her left ACL. Vonn’s Olympic comeback, it seemed, would be a nice story, but an ultimately unfinished one.

But Lindsey Vonn is, as the saying goes, built different. On Tuesday, four days after her crash and two days before her first scheduled downhill practice, Vonn announced that yes, her ACL was completely torn, and no, she would not be withdrawing from the Olympics.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Back when I ski raced a lot in a co-ed "beer league"....

Our team's top lady was an ex-Canadian team downhiller. She didn't medal in the Olympics she attended, so she was "legal" in our league. We both went to NASTAR nationals -- where she won both her age group and the overall women's match. I finished 4th in my age group, missing 3rd by less than .01 second over 4 runs, which earned a "Dude, don't quit yer day job." That allowed her to train with the USA Women's ski team the next summer in South America. She stated that all the gals on the US team were great -- except Lindsey Vonn. In her words, Lindsey is not a pleasant person.

Breezy Johnson (USA) won the downhill. Go Team USA.

Funny a lot of idiots were praising her for having more balls than most men. Roll Eyes

It's not like she pulled a muscle from the upper back or something. You're a skier, you complelely torn your ACL just nine days ago and you somehow think competing in the Olympics is a fine idea. What an idiot.

She should have withdrawn and offered her spot to a fellow teammate on stand-by. I was fine with her competing up until the torn ACL. Her performances in 2025 more than earned her a spot on the Team but thinking you could Ski that course without an ACL is beyond absurd.

Like any big athletic organization, there's the stars and then there's everyone else; it's the reality of the situation. Most of the top skiers do have an arrogance, in many ways you have to have a F-U attitude to go 75-80mph down an ice hill wearing nearly nothing. Unfortunately, celebrity culture exacerbates this negative aspect and in the case of Vonn, who's been a global celebrity for nearly two decades (dating Tiger Woods anybody?), with endless marketing, PR and media following & pumping you up...she's basically in her own world.

US Figure Skating Team took GOLD as team event (ice dancing, pairs skating, individual men’s and women’s), Japan silver, and Italy bronze. Separate individual competitions still to come.

I enjoy watching the alpine ski racing events the most, but I am in awe of the cross-country skiers who are able to push their bodies to complete exhaustion to earn a spot on the podium.

The nice about curling is your beer stayed cold. They just kept the spare half barrels off to the side of the ice.

USA playing for gold against Sweden right now.
