I can see Illinois from my house!
Not exactly true... but it's only about 3 miles to the Mississippi.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

12 miles to Idaho and a couple hours to Montana. Montana isn't a border state but is closer than Oregon that is. I'd be willing to move to either one but SWMBO says I'd be going alone. Frown

Wow good question. Oklahoma has 6 bordering states. I’m having a difficult time trying to get the mileage for 2 of the neighboring states.

Oklahoma City to North Texas is approximately 120-ish miles, to West Texas Panhandle is approximately 140-ish miles.

To Kansas is approximately 95-ish miles.

To Missouri is approximately 215-ish.

Arkansas is close to 180-ish.

Oklahoma also shares a border with Colorado and with New Mexico, in the far western edge of the Panhandle. I’m having some troubles getting those miles.

We’re surrounded!

Tidbit of trivia: I have a friend who lived in far SE Oklahoma. As a Veteran, it was closer for him to drive to the VA Hospital in Shreveport LA than to the VA in OKC or to Dallas.

About half an hour to IL if you go due east, but only 10-15 minutes if you go due north.

I guess about an hour to the south and two hours to the north. Lots of hours if you go west and I can't go any more east.

I did just get back from two weeks in KY though. As much as I love it there it's not close enough to the ocean for me.

Not to one up Palin, but I could see Illinois from the front porch of my last home. Wink

I'm a bit further away now. 30 minutes maybe.

The key to enforcement is to punish the violator, not an inanimate object. The punishment of inanimate objects for the commission of a crime or carelessness is an affront to stupidity.

I'm in Texas so some of the distances are large:
  • Louisiana - 146 miles
  • Arkansas - 276 miles
  • Oklahoma - 300 miles
  • New Mexico - 548 miles
  • Mexico - 355 miles

Ego is the anesthesia that deadens the pain of stupidity
