Loud exhausts saves lives. One of my bikes (the best sounding) can be heard from two blocks away.

PPGMD, can you show me on the teddy bear where the bad bad bad motorcycle touched you?

Depends on the bike vs car. Some of these new modern Supersport motos stop/slow down pretty damn fast.

Been driving for over 30 years. Some people have drove longer than me, some shorter.
Most of the stupid behavior I've seen has come from cars and trucks, not motorcycles.
I've been on a bike for quite a while too and always acted sane.
Have I seen stupidity on a bike? Absolutely but far less than I've seen from cars and trucks.

I'd rather be hated for who I am than loved for who I'm not.

I've been riding since the 60's. I have been run off the road twice at speed. The worst was by a car.

I was in the left lane going 70 next to a car and even with the rear of his front driver,s open window. He started to come over into my lane, I yelled in my full face helmet, he heard me, looked right at me, and still continued into my lane.

I ended up in the median at 70 mph. The only thing that saved me was being on a BMW R1200 GS Adventure and not hitting the brakes. I rolled off the throttle, slowed down, and moved back onto the road. I then caught up with the idiot who almost killed me, but that is another story.

Four pages and I can barely hear the crickets from the OP over all the noise.

You've been around long enough that you knew how this was going to go.

This!!!

Guess all white people are bad because of skinheads. And all black people should be shot because of the Black Panthers. Bigots of any stripe disgust me. Especially those jerks who think they are better than everyone else. And yes I ride. I ride with the thought/caution people are out there with the wish to harm me simply because I ride something different. I have never done any of the things you talk about. But you would be happy I was taken out? Because I probably deserved it? Thanks a lot, says a lot about you.

As a group I've seen more "I don't give a fuck about anyone else" attitude than any other group. Yes I've nearly been killed by trucks and cars many times. But rarely is the person purposely doing that act.

Things I've personally seen that are dangerous to themselves and others around them:
Wheelies
Standing on their seat
Drag racing on a public street - And yes I've seen cars do it, but I've seen more bikers do, and it is more dangerous for them.
Lane splitting on the interstate at highway speeds
Weaving in dense traffic at high speeds
Passing on the shoulder at highway speeds
Extreme rates of speed - I was doing 94mph (which is only 9 over which felt slightly unsafe as the trucks were still going around 60mph) in West Texas, and a bike passed me so fast he was a blur.

General douchebaggery I've seen:
Loud Pipes
Riding in large groups on two lanes rounds below the speedlimit.
The above but also speeding up in any passing area.
Riding in large groups back in forth in the same area all fucking day long.

And that is just stuff I've personally seen. We all know about the even more extreme shit they've pulled like shutting down interstates to do stunts. Pull a man out of his car and beat him nearly to death. The list goes on.

Someone mentioned how a friend got hit by a truck on the highway. Well my step-father was hit by a biker that was flagrantly speeding through a parking lot of a Buckees. He will never be able to run. He will be lucky if he walks right ever again. In fact if they can't get the infection under control they might have to amputate his leg above the knee, which as a BK amputee myself that is a HUGE FUCKING DEAL.

So that sob story about the truck declaring bankruptcy doesn't affect me. As the biker chose to ride a vehicle that puts him in more danger. My step father was crossing a fucking parking lot with his dinner and some dick head on some over powered bike (it is specifically advertised as being a street legal racing bike) decided he wanted to replicate a race in the parking lot hit him and wrecked his life.

There are assholes who operate everything from tennis shoes through semis and ships. This isn't really news to anybody.

Honestly, I get frustrated with traffic and how others operate, but I can't say I've ever wished someone would die as a result.

As a motorcycle rider (one who keeps the inner hooligan well under control), I've had far more issues with poor drivers of cars/suvs than any other method of transportation out there.

From behind it can be heard two blocks away. But from the front and side without reflections from dense buildings it doesn't make much more noise than a normal exhaust.

Which means unless you are in a tunnel or in a dense city street if you are coming up a cars blind spot the exhaust would only be noticeable about the time you get even with the front windows of the car. Which adds almost no safety value. It is basic physics of how sound waves propagate. If it were about safety you would need to turn the pipes around and project the sound forward from the rear of the bike.

So little if any added safety value, damages your own hearing when riding in groups, is a dick head move to your fellow drivers, and is a dick head move to the property owners that you are riding by. Loud pipes are the biker equivalent to "We're here, we're queer, and we are in your face." And lets not forget against the fucking law.

And yes some cars modify their exhaust to make more noise, and then there are the subwoofers. They are also dick heads, but at least they don't lie out their ass and claim it is for safety. Nor do they cruise around average streets in large groups.
