Speaking of cleansing, I'll poop on my membership dues check and fold it in half. That should cover the Rorschach, and DNA, requirements, while the bouncing check should make my credit obvious.

There will be some revision of the waiver. For 2020, we will require a DNA sample, a credit report, psych eval. nothing major.

Hopefully not a colonoscopy, since you mention those other things.

Just a figure of speech. SIGforum is not interested in your innards.

As an option, we have a primal screaming workshop at your local Baptist church, immediately after the Sunday potluck supper.

Just gotta get it out, get geared up for the new year. Something tells me something yadda yadda...

I came here to learn more about Sigs, and found much much more.

I recall being out of line in an early post, and then paid attention long enough to learn. This place has made us better. Better informed about our hobbies, more entertained, occasionally gave us comfort and always great company. I understand we are guests, however not the more common theme of anonymity to flaunt house rules.

Reading regularly feels like home.

I try to remember that I'm a guest and attempt to conduct myself with that in mind.

For what it's worth, when and if I say "your house; your rules", it is merely an acknowledgement that I am a guest and, as such, will abide by your wishes. Several folks in this thread stated they take offense to it. I see now how that can come across as passive-aggressive, but I've never meant it that way.

Thank you for putting up with me.

I feel like I am SigForums slow growth vegetable. One of these days, I hope to post something worth reading.. Big Grin. Its 11 years I've been a Member now. I know at least a little how to fit in here. It took me a few years to make my own obsevation of Holy Smokes, look at these people I am among. This is the only Forum I've ever attended. I cant find anything to be critical of in how Para has structured SigForum. I hope the future sees me being a better participant here. You do a fine job Para and Moderators. I cant imagine another on line Forum that could be any better. Carry on sir.

I imagine if you made it known such was the policy you'd have a ready-made team of deputies. There is, after all, the "report" button.

This is the very first thing I though of as I read this thread.
I like to be around enough to understand some of the humor attributed to the goings on in other threads.
Knowing everything going on, serious or otherwise, must be a monumental task.
If someone is being put in their place, I think I can safely assume it's for reasons beyond my scope.

I've said it before, I'll say it again.

Sigforum is an organic learning experience.

Maybe I coined it, maybe I didn't. But it is, if you're paying attention. Like life.

Who here remembers who I replaced? Do you remember when I was a member? Some time has passed and there is history of who I was, who I am, and all in between. Some folks didn't like me then, do they like me now? Who knows.

Whatever you thought of me as a member, and now as a mod, there is no clear path to making everyone happy. There is no way to make all the right choices. I try to do the right thing, and not be a cunt, every day, in meatspace and here.

I do my best to separate personal opinion from my duty, and it can be hard to be clear.

I don't know how many of you do this, but speaking for one Arcwelder, I don't actually say anything on here I wouldn't say to your face. Text has its difficulties.

In this age of "social media," and some very popular websites that allege to still be "discussion boards," what is going on here is increasingly rare. Particularly when sites similar to this, dilute the control, and bend to ads to generate revenue.

There is no perfect place to be. This may be the most personal place to be.

Arc.

I like it here. Feels like grown ups are in charge. Which, since I work in LE in King County,WA is a NICE change from “real life”.

Plus, I recall you once saying something complimentary about one of my photos. Which means a lot coming from someone else who started back in the dark ages of “film”. That stuff that you had to “process” in order to make “prints” that people could look at.

Plus you know a lot, and care a lot about movies. May not always end up “loving” the stuff you recommend, but I definitely end up learning a lot from watching!

I guess that’s nothing to do with the actual forum, which is 100% non stop awesome in every respect. Just what I get from what I have to go on about you, and at the end of it all, you run this place, and so...

I will get the credit report, DNA sample (1/1024th Mass. Senator in there I’m sure) and assorted supporting documentation ready. I’m just worried about the unitard....

Do we have a Unitard supplier we are supposed to be using? I don’t want to show up with an out of spec Unitard...

It's my responsibility to cater to the forum, not vice versa. I understand that riding herd on this bunch has had its moments, it's been consistent and plenty fair enough. I try to be an asset but I've gotten far more than I've given, in for the duration. Thanks for being here, SIGforum.

The classifieds seem to have more low post count folks and they seem to be a disproportionate number of the problems you have to deal with. That's also a way to get people interested that may not come here otherwise. Is that why you don't require a minimum number of posts or time before letting them sell here?
No, I don't allow new members to use Classifieds with the intent of drawing them in. Frankly, that didn't even occur to me. I just cling to the foolish hope that people will behave ethically and not use us like a wash rag. Alas, my hopes are dashed daily.

It's funny you bring this up, because yesterday I was thinking of implementing a 200 post requirement before members can use Classifieds, but that would have to be enforced manually, because the forum software does not provide for such a thing.

'course I could deputize some of the town folk- a permanent posse, so to speak...

This place is unequivocally my only internet hangout, social media club and enthusiast site I use - all due to Para's hard work and those of the mods. Thank You Para for this forum's excellent service to the firearm community, for introducing me to so many brethren in arms on the internet and for proclaiming this site has a plan to deal with its (advertisement free) future legacy.

Regarding the Classifieds, a minimum 200 post purchasing/sales requirement is an excellent idea and something I attempted to enforce in my previous transactions w/potential buyers, although not entirely in a successful manner. While the software function isn't there, perhaps place this rule in the topmost sticky thread covering all those who conduct business on the board? Some members may ignore it, but I think the majority of those that are loyal to SF will conduct themselves accordingly.

Considering that the Lounge has 5X the number of posts as any other sub-forum, if Para let the Lounge get out of hand, the gun related subs, for which Sigforum exists, might follow suit.

Whether that observation is relevant or true or not, I have come to trust and respect Para’s judgement on the decisions he makes in calling someone out, telling someone to cool it, or locking a thread.

As sdy noted, the last 11 years and the worst to possibly come in our country would have driven me crazy without Sigforum. So thank you to Para, the mods, and the forum members for what we have here. I’ve learned a thing or two about guns and ammo along the way too!

Happy New Year Para. You do what you do well.

Happy New Year Sigforum.

I stop in just about every day, but just read through the threads once. If I post something myself (shocking, but it happens), there might be a 24 hour lag before I open the thread again.

About the only gripe I have is that I'll see a thread that's interesting, look for it again the next day, and it's been nuked.

I don't object to you nuking a thread that's gone cancerous. I just wish I could find an indicator, like just the original thread title with a single post saying, "This thread was nuked because whanson_wi was an asshat and used the forbidden phrase umptysquat".

More work than it's worth, I know. Keep on son-of-bitching just as you have, would be my vote.

I would like to apologize to anyone I have *not* offended. Please be patient. I will get to you shortly.
