I used to hate minivans, but then I had one as a work car for a while, and realized how great they are. I'm not vain, so I don't care they don't look cool. My Sienna has as much room as a Chevy Suburban, is easier to get in and out of than an SUV, especially if you want/need third row seats, and is much less expensive than than an SUV (about 40% less expensive). I can't believe what I'm hearing from otherwise male posters. Way back in 2003 we bought a VW station wagon. I was concerned then but my wife allowed me to select the options I wanted (notice she "allowed"). So I did what any otherwise normal guy would do. I got the W8 engine and 6 speed. Yes, in a wagon. It was just a mild Audi V8, but made it fun to drive. And she hated it. Along comes 2009 and she wanted to trade it because it didn't have enough grandkid carrying capacity. I'm old and I don't care what she wants to drive. I agreed to go look. At that time there was a Chrysler van that was kind of interesting. It had a nice interior at least. But she vetoed that in favor of one she liked. Then she expected me to suffer with it. Instead I drove my off road jeep most of the time. A rule of life here, don't let your wife select a car for you unless you really trust her. And its still probably unwise. Never overestimate your wife's ability to deceive you. So 3 years later I mostly gave it to a DIL, then went out and bought another Jeep for me to drive. I learned a big lesson. Wives are not to be trusted in vehicle decisions. Now she wants a "SUV" for her to drive. I don't care. I don't want to drive one, and really don't want to pay for one. She can do as she pleases. Just don't ask for my input as if I'm going to grow to love it. Next time you get a renewal card for your man card, see if it doesn't have a pinkish tint to it. If you're still young and getting laid regularly it might make sense. As you age and aren't getting compensation, go ahead and let her pick the thing she wants to drive. Just let her know she's not going to inflict it on you. When you first see your friends, and you pull up in the minivan, look to see if any of them are facing you. Most will turn away and snicker. No. Just no. Vans are the devil, mini or otherwise. I like lowered vehicles and am therefore in a position to not see over, around or through your barn door shaped bread truck. Wagons are cool, SUVs are for status oriented people and vans just suck. Unless you are a plumber or work for the cable company. A Perpetual Disappointment... | |||

My wife and I just bought our first van. HOLY SHIT I LOVE THIS THING! We're taking a brief road trip up to Idaho in April to visit my dad (he retires end of March, so we're throwing him a surprise party) and I'm stoked to take the van! I think we will end up keeping the van for a long time. Last week I went on a grocery run followed by a gardening run to Lowes and still had lots of room left. It is perfect for carrying a ton of stuff. The practicality has won me over. I can open and close doors with the push of a button instead of yelling to my ADD kid to close the door. That in itself is brilliant. Having bought two incredibly practical vehicles back to back AND having to trade in my truck I can say with certainty the next vehicle I buy will be something that is tons of fun to drive. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The price of liberty and even of common humanity is eternal vigilance | |||

 why they can't make these front wheel drive , with a door behind the driver , is beyond me. as long as we are at it: a rear door that either swings like a door or drops like an end gate would be great, and a gas filler door on both sides of the vehicle tranny shift on the column ,for bonus points. thanks I will take one. http://www.hamtramck-historica...ation_wagons0015.jpg Safety, Situational Awareness and proficiency. Sienna is a great choice! I used to sell Toyotas and was always impressed with the ride in the Sienna. Was thinking of getting one to "wander" around. Lol... My wife doesn't "allow" me to buy or do anything. Anyone too weak to drive a mini van needs to question their man card, not those of us secure to drive what we recognize as a very practical and utilitarian vehicle. I let my wife drive what she wants, I drive what I want. The mini van is gone now, but when i had it I didn't give a damn what anyone thought about it. I was a family man, with a wife, a kid, and two dogs. A mini van made sense for us to have. There is no shame in it. Don't weep for the stupid, or you will be crying all day | |||
