Lawyers, Guns and Money |
Bingo. The "aid" money is like passing out crack and expecting no one to get addicted. All that we are doing is encouraging and propping up the graft and corruption in these countries. If we cut off the "aid" money and build the wall we will encourage the people to reform their own countries. I know.... it sounds harsh. "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

Plus, think of all the tacos! (We got plenty here, already, but y'all up in Minnesota could use some good tacos, right?) The fish is mute, expressionless. The fish doesn't think because the fish knows everything.

Why don't we start with granting Puerto Rico statehood and then see where things go from there? After all, they're close and an awful lot of them already speak English. And yeah, I did say statehood. Why? Take a loooong, careful look at the history of the British Empire. The only way to have kept the whole thing from falling apart would have been to make the different colonies full-fledged parts of Britain, which means giving everyone the same vote, giving everyone a seat in Parliament, etcetera, etcetera, ad nauseum. You want Mexican and Venezuelan oil? So do I. But how badly do you want to hear United States Senator Nicolas Maduro (D-Ven.) on the nightly news lauding the election of United States President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, AKA AMLO? Because that's what all that oil would cost - and that's where all the oil money would go. Well, there and fighting the commie(er) rebels in Chiapas, cleaning up the incredibly pervasive gang problems in El Salvador and Honduras, and sorting out a variety of "indigenous peoples" policies that would boggle your mind in both quantity and quality.

I shudder to think what a person from Minnesota thinks a taco is. I'm picturing bowls of tomato paste on the table when you ask for chips and salsa.

We would just set up "No Go" zones and anyone who we felt didnt belong would be dealt with accordingly.

I would say yes, but only down to Panama. The Southern border of the US would be with with Colombia, and a lot of the area would be trackless jungle (save for the Panamerican Highway.) I'd make a guarded zone across the isthmus about 20 mile east of Panama city. This would act as the southern border. It's about 40-ish miles wide at that point. Much easier to guard than the 2,000 mile border with Mexico. I'd treat the former countries between the current border and the new one as overseas territories. The would not immediately get US citizenship, but would be worked toward that, and the territories becoming US states. Certain goals would be set before that could happen, based on things like English literacy levels and reduced crime rates. I'd try to work a deal of essentially a merger with Canada. Canada presents much less of a problem to deal with, and in some ways, we kind of act as a single country now. But as the Arctic become more important as a trade route, and as the Russians get more assertive up there, the US being directly in control will become important.

(South American here) the fascinating thing about most Americans (not you, jhe) is that they confuse “Mexico” with everything south of the border. Your average Argentine steakhouse blows anything Chicago has out of the water, a Cuban can make your stomach smile with flavor (no hot spice!), Brazil is a medley of German/Italian and indigenous dishes, Colombians make fantastic soups and stews... And not one of them knows what a damn taco is. It’s like asking a guy from Nebraska how to make Maine Lobsters, or a dude from Vermont what the best jambalaya is.

The county wants our city to annex a couple of neighborhoods. They are on failing septic fields, many private roads that would have to be upgraded, with heavy drug use and crime. No the county won’t contribute any money. In fact, one areas that might be annexed is being developed. However, the property taxes are committed to be spent on affordable housing elsewhere. Anyone interested? Same with this idea. “ The work of destruction is quick, easy and exhilarating; the work of creation is slow, laborious and dull.

I posted an article of mine back during El Diablo’s administration about bringing Mexico in to the US. There are a great many advantages both ways. Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me. When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson "Some things are apparent. I have always said that USA, Canada, and Mexico should be ONE country. Instead of sending our manufacturing to China, send it to Mexico. God Bless "Always legally conceal carry. At the right place and time, one person can make a positive difference."

Unfortunately, just the opposite is happening. In another 20 to 30 years we will be a part of Mexico and Latin America. So you either head north and learn to love hockey or stay and enjoy the tacos. No one's life, liberty or property is safe while the legislature is in session.- Mark Twain
