I thought this was hysterical:

To quote Jon Gruden on UMBC beating Virginia, "That is like a taco truck putting McDonald's out of business."

Me. Big Grin

But then, I hate them with a passion so...there's that.

Well, if you've ever lived in CNY, you either love them or hate them. There really is no in between. I'm the latter.

Not only did I get sick and tired of all orange all the time, but Boeheim is an asshole of the highest caliber and his slanderous defense of Bernie Fine was just disgusting.

I can actually speak first hand about that

When I was at West Point one of my roommates was an army lacrosse player and I went on a trip section up to Syracuse for an army-Syracuse lacrosse exhibition...Syracuse was the team in college lacrosse at the time

We were in the carrier dome and saw Boeheim. A bunch of us were in uniform and one of the guys says “hey coach”

The nasty, contemptuous look on his face was as mean as I’ve ever seen. Like how dare we 5e lowly dare to address him

I, too, always root against Syracuse basketball....just basketball though...everybody else was really nice to us

Well I hail from there. Old enough to have watched Jim Brown and Ernie Davis play football in Archbold Stadium.

Not much of a BB fan but have enjoyed the rivalries of the old Big East. The Carrier Dome can be unbelievably loud. Boeheim is certainly not Mr Personality and has done a number of stupid things in the past. That said his Zone Defense is remarkable for its longevity and ability to frustrate many good teams. So for entertainment value the 'Cuse BB teams are usually fun to watch.

What I'm getting at is that I disagree about there being no middle ground vis a vis The 'Cuse.

Perhaps I should have said that there is very little in between. Although, in my experience, it's one or the other.

Either way, they won't make it too deep this year. That is a near certainty.

One hour until the Gonzaga tip-off though! We'll see how they can hold up this year. When they are on, they are playing the best they ever have. When they are off...well...it ain't so good. Should be a good game though.

I'm looking forward to the game myself. Perkins will be the key for the Zags. If he's on, they win, if not who knows. It seems like someone on the bench comes in and changes the tempo and gets them on track.

AAaaaannnnnnd Win they did!

GO ZAGS... on to Sweet Sixteen!

I got the feeling watching the game with Ohio State that there was some unneeded fouling going on... I wonder if they were still smarting from the earlier loss to the Zags last fall in a different tournament?

Don

Syracuse is giving Michigan State a good go but I worry about 2nd half foul trouble.

I grew up in Syracuse and I loved them.
I still do.
One of my brothers plays golf with Boeheim and he is an asshole.

Oh hell. Frown I'm originally from the suburbs of Syracuse (Fayetteville; CBA '65, LeMoyne '72) but for whatever reason this mascot name sailed right over my head. Thanks for the sanity check Mike! LOL

And oh BTW screw Izzo. Really don't think much of his skills as a coach.

Nobody gave them much of a chance vs MSU either. 9.5 pt underdogs. They may not beat Duke, but they are capable of doing so.

I don't disagree but it still remains an extremely stiff challenge.

Did you know CBA is now co-ed? It may as well be Christian Brothers And Sisters Academy.

Oh yeah, I know. Frown Old CBA merged with Convent School quite awhile back. Things are simply not the same.

As an aside, back in my day (my class was just 161 guys) our football line outweighed SU. We played in what was then the Central NY Cities League. Had several guys go on to All-American status and then the Pros. Biggest were Marty Domres (6'4" quarterback) and Walt Patulski (6'6" 240+ lb fullback!). The kicker went on to be All-American too but his name escapes me.
