I then see the conversation on the GMRS radios. Is there much difference between the MP-31 and the GM-15 ? I really couldn’t find a good comparison between them.

Yes, primary difference is the output power of the the GM-15 will be significantly higher than the MP-31.

At this point Baofeng is no longer the king of price for what you get. I’d strongly recommend the TIDRADIO options such as the H8 or H3 GMRS/HAM radios.

For best output power, buy the HAM version, it can be set to GMRS “mode” if you are concerned with FCC compliance

What part of "...Shall not be infringed" don't you understand???

I felt the same way as you in the beginning! One thing I did learn very quickly though is no matter what radio you choose to purchase, a newer improved version will be a month or so away and you'll want to "upgrade" almost immediately. That's why I have eight of the bloody things around here when I only need 2 or 3 maximum! Wink

Oh, and "Blackmore", I seem to recall Para mentioning one time that he didn't like the term rabbit hole, so I hereby propose we refer to it as the "bunny burrow"... Big Grin

I went ahead and ordered the GMRS GM-15 and got them today. I signed up and paid for my GMRS license tonight. Of course the website isn’t super friendly on how to do it and you have to bounce between two different websites!

For any serious GMRS user who is looking for a feature-laden GMRS mobile radio, the link below gives a good description of the features and capabilities of an impressive new offering from BTech.

One of the main features which I was attracted to is how the display is contained in the face of the microphone which allows for mounting the radio itself out of the way since it does not have the display on its face.

It is a 50 watt radio which offers all 22 main GMRS channels along with 8 repeater channels. There is an app for smart phones which allows for programming, etc. Additionally, it offers receive capabilites beyond GMRS which include broadcast FM, AM aviation, NOAA, public service and ham UHF/VHF.
