Did you not see the cinematic classic "Red Dawn"?

China moving into Taiwan

I’m concerned about the government adopting a digital currency and seizing retirement plans

Legislation implemented with the swipe of a pen that causes

1 - ammo prices to double or triple in price
2 - banning the manufacture and/or sale of high cap mags of any type
3 - additional registration requirements that infringes on our 2nd Amendment rights.

Disaster to me is the millions of people who have moved to my metro area. They are predicting tying Chicago by 2028 in terms of metro population and matching Los Angeles by 2030. I’ve counterpunched by buying rural property this year in another state away from most. Town has 872 people and it’s 30 minutes away from a suburb type city to get supplies such as HD, etc.

The disaster I foresee is millions and millions being stacked on each other in the big cities and the rural way of life is the only way I see out of it. Having 5, 10, 20 acres and some space to DIY many things is the only way I can live going forward.

I think the most likely collapse style disaster will be wide spread, long term power outage. A financial collapse would more likely to happen but I do not feel that would bring extended suffering to the masses.

At 68 I worry seriously about inflation / runaway inflation... rendering my life savings and investments unable to maintain the modest yet comfortable standard of of living I and millions of Americans now enjoy.

Financial collapse. No way the govt. can continue printing money the way they have been. No way can our country continue to spend $150 billion dollars a year on illegal aliens. I know some dislike the NRA, but I really believe there would be much more gun control/gun control attempts if not for them. Our congressmen and senators could give a shit about the 2nd amendment, but they do fear the NRA on Election Day. All IMHO.

Anything mentioned above that disrupts the food supply.
People go the craziest when they need food and can't get it.

I’ll take the cpap squad over useless blue state cops who stood around, thumbs in ass, as their cities became zoos in 2020.

Yeah. The more I think about it I’m reminded that all the weaponry and ammo you care to stash away will only protect you from the occasional invader or two. A small raiding party will overwhelm home level defenses and fire is a very effective weapon against holed up defenders.

For fuck's sake.

Then, don't prepare. Just sit there with your thumb up your ass, saying "There's no point." Forfeit your right to exist. After all, it's the only way. You've got it all figured out.

Happy now?

Someone once told me it was stupid to stockpile emergency supplies as there's no guarantee that you'll be home when a disaster hits. I replied how stupid it would be if you were at home when disaster hits and you hadn't prepped in any way.

In answer to the question which is the subject of this thread- no one knows what will happen and yes, many of the possible scenarios afford no possibility that a person may be able to do anything at all in the face of certain circumstances.

But, there are some scenarios in which a reasonably prepared individual may prevail because of their precautions, as feeble and pointless as these precautions may appear to some.

I'll tell you what I am not anticipating- and that's an angry mob burning me out of my home. This country is vast. The idea that because of the precarious circumstances in which we as a nation now find ourselves, hordes of crazed looters would target my home or even my neighborhood or general area, is the stuff of comic books.

What I do know is that the self-loading rifle is, for the citizen, the most effective means of defense at their disposal, and to neglect this, is foolishness.

One of my closest friends has been on my wavelength about this stuff since 2020. He was blessed to find a job he can do from anywhere in the world with a phone and a laptop, and he took advantage of that and bought a few dozen acres 8k feet up a mountain where no stranger drives halfway up the road before a neighbor sends him a text about it. If our work situation allowed it, I'd be up there with him on the plot of land next door.

All you have to do is look at the flash mobs now stripping stores, pharmacies and what ever they deem as a target. The retail stores are deciding to leave certain areas of the cities. They say that there is only a three day supply of food in the cities. After that where are the mobs going to turn? Private homes, then the suburbs, then rural.
