This question is for those who have been getting the annual flu vaccine. If you don’t get it anyway, it’s not necessary to inform me (or any of us) that, “You’ve never taken the shot and never will.”

For the latter 10 years or so of my life I’ve gone ahead and taken the flu shot. I felt I reached an age where it was a probably a good idea. This year, I’m more than hesitant. We’ve been lied to, or at best, subjected to guesswork with respect to our national healthcare. I don’t trust any of those fuckers with my health any longer, and therefore; I’m reluctant to get a flu shot.

Anyone else here have similar thoughts?

The flu vaccines are always a shot in the dark (pun intended) at what is going to be infectious for the year. I don’t think I remember them ever getting it right.

I used to travel quite a bit so I’ve been inoculated against many different things

Last time I got one, I had a pretty good lump of a reaction on my arm. Since then the doctor doesn’t recommend them anymore. I feel similarly.

Of other note however, I am vaccinated against deep pneumonia. I think that’s a good bet.

If you want to get it, go to your GP. At least there, it's your best bet to get just that and only that.

My GP would be the only one I trust to give me just a flu shot.

Just got mine yesturday, annual influenza shots usually have gone through a lot more testing & trails as common flu's generally come in a variety of flavors but with similar make-ups; unlike the covid-solution which was railroaded through.

The last 2+ years certainly stoked the fires of distrust and skepticism, which is all understandable given some of the tragic results; unfortunately, there's those in government and industry who think they know better

I get the flu vaccine every year, and have for ~40 years. Only had the flu once in all that time, I think that's a pretty good record.

I just got mine at COSTCO.

I have been getting them for the last 30 years and can't remember having the flu in that period. Your mileage may vary.

Been getting them annually since I joined the military and since getting out. I've gotten the flu once. I'll be getting one as soon as I return from this TAD.

I got the flu each and every year for years.

Then I married Mrs. Flash and she was working at a County Hospital. She came home and said they offered free flu and pneumonia shots for employees and their spouses.

I figured for free, I'd try it. That was around 1983. I've gotten the flu shot every year since and never had the flu again.

Coincidence? I doubt it, and I just got my 2022 flu shot around 2 weeks ago.

Our doctor doesn’t keep drugs on site. You get sent to the local Walgreens or CVS for a vaccine. I asked the doc about it and he said it relieves the office from tracking, storing, ordering, etc..it’s a cost saving thing. My kids pediatrician is the same way. ( the local hospital owns and runs all the doctors offices in the area..Baylor Scott &White)

I know they guess on it every year. I got them on and off. Then my FIL got cancer and I started getting the shot yearly as a safeguard. He eventually passed but I’ve kept getting it. Got this years guess when I had blood work done on Friday. I tend to trust the doctors and nurses on this stuff and have friends in both professions who are straight shooters. I have my own health issues and the flu shot and pneumonia shot put me at a lower risk. It’s self preservation.

But I don't trust gov to not secretly throw in the gene modification stuff, especially if they have excess.

The only shot I'm thinking about getting is the one for shingles.

Berto, in the post above you, mentioned the pneumonia vaccine. I certainly don’t regret that 2-shot series.

I have taken it for years and have not had the flu for a very long time. I got mine last week at the same time and in the same arm as the latest covid booster.

I was a True Believer in flu shots. I got them every year, for decades. Never got flu.

About six years ago, I was in the doc's office for routine check-up. He asked if I wanted a flu shot while I was there. Sure, one-stop shopping, it will save me a trip to the Minute Clinic, so I got the shot.

A few weeks later I got hit hard with Guillain Barré Syndrome. Over a week in the hospital, spinal tap, couple IVIG transfusions, then months of outpatient physical therapy. That was six years ago. I am still not fully recovered, and do not expect to ever get back to anywhere near 100%. My fingers are still numb (no more safe-cracking!), my balance is terrible, have lost a significant amount of strength.

Doc said that is was one in a million reaction to flu shot, and I am now on the "no-fly list" for most vaccines.

Your probability of a reaction like this is extremely low, but it's pretty bad if it does occur.

Now that I don't get flu shots, I am really anal about common sense stuff like hand washing, etc. With these precautions, I have not had flu, even though I have not had a flu shot for six years.

Same here. I've gotten the vacation every year since it was free. I guess 25 years or so and have never contracted the flu. The shot? just lucky? I think in that many years there would be someting. Early on my wife said she didn't want it a got a very bad case of flu that kept her down for a week or more. She starting getting the shot and zero issues.

I respect ones preference to not get it, and I hope those respect my preference. I get one each year on my birthday, which is 9/29. I'm not screwing around with success. Flu sucks especially if your old and have other issues.

I've been getting my Flu shot every year for at least the last 20 years or more and will get it again this year. I usually wait till mid-October and get it either at the VA if I happen to be out there or at my local Publix. Either way the cost is always zero and I sure don't want me no Flu if I can avoid it.

I had the shingles, once, and happily took the new shingles shots. Don't want that awful stuff, either.

I discussed this with my long time doctor 4-5 years ago at age 60 and started taking them for the first time ever.
It just seems that anything I get hits me harder and harder as I age.
I usually have a physical or blood work in Oct/Nov so I ask him what shot to get at that time.

While I'm here, my friends and colleagues have reminded me that there are some regional/local versions, that my little white blood cell buddies are likely unaware of ...

It's free here, so I have had a flu shot.

Yup, I would be extremely hesitant to accept any injection right now due to not trusting pharma or the powers behind the curtain. Our docs had better be worthy of our trust, but I don't trust whoever is mixing the stuff that goes in the vials, and I wouldn't even trust places like chain pharmacy stores (e.g. Walgreens etc) or flu shot clinics.

Furthermore, I will need to investigate the composition of any future injections to be sure they are not mRNA or DNA based.

Big Medicine in conjunction with government regulators have completely destroyed my trust.
