Just finished skimming the 169 page complaint. The gravamen is WLP's misuse of the NRA's funds, breaches of fiduciary duty and for failures to follow whistle-blower standards.

Interestingly, this will probably make the NRA much stronger and get the NRA back on track to its core of protecting the 2nd Amendment. Seems like nothing more than a political stunt by the NY Attorney General which will backfire in November. More proof that the democrats are in fact coming for your guns

Wouldn't it be ironic if this somehow ends in LaPierre getting booting and making the NRA stronger. That would crack me up. Thanks for cleaning out the cupboards for us Letitia!

I didn't realize they were chartered in NY. They should probably just dissolve the current organization, and reform it as a new non-profit corporation in different, friendlier state, of course after unloading LaPierre and his baggage. Of course, LaPierre has been there so long, he controls all of the NRA's infrastructure, and all of it's employees are likely his syncophants.

Could happen. Not to mention a large increase in membership and funds.

There may be other organizations that are better run or are “purer” in their stance(s) toward our rights, but the NRA gets listened to.

And for those who refuse to support its efforts, I hope you would like living with the gun laws of the UK, Canada, Australia, or worse, because that would be the best we could hope for. The NRA is the reason—the only reason—we still have the freedoms to own and bear the arms we do today.

LaPierre has been tapping into donated funds for personnel use for years and everyone knows it. That and the NRA threw Washington State under the bus when anti-gun legislation was introduced. I never saw commercials or any other type of action against their efforts to go after gun owners here. He heads the organization so I lay the blame on his shoulders.

I'm not OK with this, but at this point I'm certainly willing to throw that useless parasite La Pierre to the wolves if the opportunity arises. The turkey just won't take a hint.

If the NRA violated laws, she can prosecute them and the criminals will go to jail. If they violated a civil statute, she can sue them and get a monetary judgment. She has no power to force via law a change of an employee. She's overplayed her hand and made her end game so obvious that she's going to fail before she even gets started.

But, but...they disbanded the Hells Angels and the KKK with a combination of criminal and civil actions, right? Oh, wait...

DC Attorney General Is Suing the NRA Foundation

The lawsuit by Karl Racine alleges the NRA's charitable wing funneled money to the gun lobbying group.

A lawsuit announced by DC Attorney General Karl Racine alleges that the NRA Foundation, a charitable nonprofit associated with the National Rifle Association, improperly diverted charitable donations to the influential gun lobbying group. In a public statement announcing the lawsuit, the Office of Attorney General said that by allowing charitable funds to be used for non-charitable, and failing to operate as an independent nonprofit, the NRA Foundation violated District laws.

While the NRA is incorporated in New York, the NRA Foundation, its charitable wing, is incorporated in the District. Both are headquartered at the same address in Fairfax, Virginia. According to Racine’s lawsuit, an OAG investigation found that the NRA’s financial problems in recent years prompted it to lean heavily on the Foundation for funds, including two $5 million loans in 2017 and 2018, one of which has not been repaid. The lawsuit also alleges a series of fee schedules and other financial schemes to funnel more money to the NRA.

The move came as New York’s attorney general filed a separate lawsuit in New York, seeking to dissolve the organization over charges of “fraud and abuse.”

Racine’s civil complaint, which was filed today in the DC Superior Court, can be found here.

That's a stretch. You are painting with an EXTREMELY broad brush. Care to back that up with facts?

Right before the Presidential election to weaken the NRA impact to support Donald Trump.

We'll see what happens.

So her argument is essentially the NRA isn't as effective as it could be. Bold strategy.

Yea verily. A lot of gun owners here are not too happy with the NRA, the perception is we've been abandoned, and seeing what they rolled out to fight 1639 and 594, before and after the election, it's hard to blame folks here for that attitude.

Just the sheer length of time he's been running it. How many of the senior executive aren't his hires? How many board members aren't his appointees?

I'd love to see the NRA get out of this, but he's painted it into a corner.

Your post specifically stated ALL employees, not just board members and senior executives. All includes employees answering phones and processing memberships, those running the museum, the training division, operating the range, etc. Don't assume ALL of the employees approve of Wayne.

Its truly amazing, there are people who like to watch things burn..

Wouldn't be surprised that the left has people planted into the NRA for the sole purpose of feeding intel to NY and DC AG's for this suit...

The left is the ultimate machiavellian society...
