Very sad. Seems to happen too often. The Reno air races tragedy is still on my mind too.

Holy crap! The video gives the appearance that the P-63 wasn't even seeing the B-17 and just flew right into it. Eek

To lose a P63 is even worse, from a historic aircraft point of view. So sorry for the families. Just out for a nice afternoon of flying, and now this.

Eyewitness testimony mentioned in the article corroborates that...

"One man who was at the air show said the P-63 was banking left at the time and had the B17 in his blind spot so he could not prepare for the impending crash."

That's not good....gotta wonder what's going on with air traffic control and who didn't stay in their assigned lane.

P63 was turning to rejoin and had his belly toward the B17, so the pilot lost sight of it.

WOW! The P63 cut the B17 in half, impacting directly through the center of the fuselage. The back half of the B17 can be seen mid-air, separated from the from half of the plane!

VERY Sad for all involved; pilots, crew, families... Frown

Apparently the B-17 pilot and copilot and the P-63 pilot were all UAL. So they're experienced pilots who do a lot of communicating in the cockpit about what they're doing and what they are expecting.

No word yet on the flight engineer in the B-17, or any other passengers.

Terrible day for everyone involved.

There are quite a few other videos, all from different angles, on the internet now. Some are much closer and at a better angle.

That's the advantage of everybody having a phone camera with immediate internet access.

That is sickening to see. There can be no survivors.

DFW area tv WFAA.com is stating it is believed 6 are dead, 5 on the B-17 and 1 on the Bell P-63. They also report that apparently there were no paying passengers onboard, crew only.

BTW it is also reported that the plane is named the Texas Raider.

Looks to me like someone wasn't where they were supposed to be.

That P-63 guy was high-speed and chasing the two previous fighters. Belly-up to the B-17 and never knew he was there. Shitty day.

Had a buddy at UAL tell me the P-63 guy was a 777 Captain with them. Have not heard about the B-17 guys.

One video I saw showed that if they had hit a few seconds earlier the B-17 would have crashed on top of a McDonalds.

Hate to see this.
