My renewal with a new card was completed in a couple of days. Must be because of all my double-naught spy travel?

My last renewal application was well in advance of travel. Months later as the trip approached I recalled I still hadn't received my GE or Nexus (don't recall which). I emailed support and within a few days the card was here.

I did this and got an email saying Global Entry is taking 13-14 months for approval.

Not GE, but just received my renewed NEXUS card. A pretty quick renewal process.

My global entry will be expiring in a few months and I won't bother renewing it.

I got it mostly for Pre-Check and spent the extra dollars for global entry in case we did do some international travel. But, Pre-check doesn't seem worth it any longer. The last two times I flew (both times out of O'Hare), Pre-check folks were held up as folks with the "Clear" credentials were sent to the front of the line. Mad

Thankfully my CAC card eliminates all this fuss!

Been to Korea, Canada, and UK with nothing more than a CAC card and paper orders in the last few years.

10 years to retirement! Just waiting!

My renewal just got processed today, after a 6-month wait. But instead of just renewing it, I have to interview again. Thankfully they have a zoom option, and there were slots open today. That saves me a long drive or the hassle of doing it next time I fly.

I had to drive 3 hours for fingerprints and a 5 minute interview.

That sucks, but the program is worth it. I have breezed through immigration so many times, where the regular lines were hundreds of people long.

Same for me and Mrs Sigmund, the first time we drove 2.5 hours to O'Hare. Last year we did the renewal via Zoom.

If you're an infrequent flier, and international flights are not annual then getting GE or, Pre-Check itself, is a not worth it.
Older airport security check-points and lines tend to be messy and sources of frustration; here we are 20+ years since 9/11 and some places haven't figured it out. I don't think I've ever had a positive experience at ORD other than getting a beer after all the waiting around. I would caveat that I fly in/out of DEN several times a year, which is a newer airport but, that security checkpoint situation is a poop-sandwich.

We went for the Mrs. interview today.

Out of the 10 people there, 3 had gotten their conditional approval in 24 hours or less.

I waited 3 months for an interview. When I got there (120 miles away), fully half the interviewees were walk-ins without an appointment. They took us in the order we arrived in the office. Well oiled machine it is.

Their system went down for about an hour. At least the TSA agents came out and kept the people informed. She was in the interview for 2 and 1/2 minutes.

Waste of time and resources.

Today I got an email my Global Entry renewal application was approved. It took 7 months (re-applied in February 2024) and I didn’t have to do an interview yet again. I have only had to do an interview on my initial application so far. Now I am good until February 2030.

Registered online today, drove over to the Pre-Check facility at Staples, took about 5-10 minutes to go through the process, picture, finger prints, scan ID.

Said it should be back in a week or so...

Is this for Pre-Check or Global Entry? A week or so sounds like Pre-Check.

We’re traveling internationally in a couple of weeks and because I’m an idiot, I didn’t realize that our Global Entry memberships had expired in August.

If you renew before expiration, you’re good to go while the renewal application is processed. If you blow it like I did, they promise nothing and tell you that you might have to interview again.

They specifically warn that late renewers traveling within 6 months might instead buy stand-alone pre-check, because that can take as little as 5 days.

I didn’t do that, but I did have to update each of our applications going back to 2013 with a new address and new employers. I thought we were SOL.

Submitted those applications Friday afternoon and got status updates in less than 24 hours (on a Saturday, no less) that our renewals have been processed and we’re all set. Same numbers, no interviews.

I’m impressed.

Global Entry Fee Increasing To $120, And More Changes

by Ben Schlappig

Several months back, we learned that United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is adjusting some of the pricing of its Trusted Traveler Programs (TTP). This is something that was first proposed back in 2020, but it’s finally being implemented.

I wanted to post a reminder of this, as the changes take place tomorrow, so this is your last chance to apply at the old cost. Let me also emphasize right away that the price of TSA PreCheck isn’t changing in any way...

NEXUS fee increasing to $120 as well...

Global Entry will be free for kids...
