How the hell does Amy Coney Barrett's opening statement get released ahead of time? It shouldn't be hard to figure out who did it - either someone on her team, or, any of 22 senators or their staff (if she had to provide it to the Committee X hours in advance).

Aren't most opening statements released ahead of the actual hearing? I don't think this is out of the ordinary or the act of someone "leaking" it.

Time for a functioning, competent Supreme Court Justice to fill the seat that's been vacant for years.

Cruz nailed it in his statement... all the Dem senators are yammering about is Trump, COVID, precedent, blah blah, blah.

He was expecting the hearings to be discussing ACB...

I turn this blathering bullshit off, the first day is all about politicians pandering and pontificating.

This self aggrandizement should be banned. Nothing needs to be said by the committee members as an opening statement, it's political theater bullshit, and I mean both sides.

Chairman should welcome her, she makes an opening statement, and proper questions should be asked of the candidate. Anyone starts preaching, bam, mic shutoff, admonishment, and loss of time..

Hearings would take hours not days....

It's a shame ACB has to sit through all of these "opening statements". She ought to be able to leave the room and say "Call me when you have a question", yet this is the gauntlet you must run for the "advice and consent" of the Senate.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

These hearings are a waste of time. Schumer has already said the democrats will deny a quorum at the committee vote. Therefore there will not be a committee vote. The republicans can either vote on a discharge petition on the senate floor to move her from committee or change the committee rules. Every day the republicans waste on this is another day something may happen to delay or prevent her confirmation.

Graham loves to mention how he voted for Soytomeyor and Kagan. Lol does he think the left cares? The left is laughing at him for helping put their communists on the Supreme Court.

Barret already had a recent confirmation hearing. They know who she is and every swinging dick in the senate knows how they are going to vote. The should have skipped the hearing, voted he in on the floor, and then spent the next three weeks campaigning on how awesome she will be.

Dem theme in the hearings seems to be chicken little, sky is falling ad hominem about loss of coverage for preexisting conditions and discrimination against women by charging them more if ACA is overturned.

All the dems have pictures of “victims” of COVID or other maladies behind them and tell heartbreaking stories about how they will be victims if ACB is put on the court.

Tugging at the heartstrings and emotions with bullshit stories in an attempt to draw attention away from logic, law and the constitution.

Blumenthal just “demanded” ACB recuse herself as being the right thing to do Roll Eyes

All too often, from Bush Sr on down, the Republicans willingly play the Washington Generals to the Dems' Harlem Globetrotters.

Trump seems to be the only one to get it.

These hearings are designed for two things: to generate soundbites for senatorial reelection campaigns and to give the blue check twitteratti something to fight about for the next few weeks.

Decisions Barret makes on the court will have real world implications for Americans, unfortunately the above mentioned groups don't live in the real world so they could care less.

Ginsburg was functioning and competent up until the end. You and I both didn't like her politics and jurisprudence, but she was not incapacitated.

Too true! And that POS is in a close race for his seat. Maybe he should stop reminding his conservative base what a groveling, spineless traitor he has been. Mad

I think a confirmation for ACB will be a great piece of momentum going into election day.
