That makes no sense to me. She should be confirmed as soon as possible, the very first possible moment possible.

If this is some kind of strategy, then I'm no strategist.

We have the votes to confirm her. So why rush the process, as long as she is on the Court before the election?

This will allow the Dems to most assuredly go full retard up to the election. I can only believe that this will help our side.
If everyone was voting on Nov 3rd then it's an OK strategy. However, this cluster fuck of a year will likely have record numbers for early and absentee voting. 6 of the 8 swing states have surprisingly soon early voting dates - Georgia (4th Monday before election), Arizona (27-days), Ohio (28-days), Michigan (45-days), MN (46-days), and PA (varies by county but as much as 50-days). In other words, don't give them a glimmer of hope that their early or absentee vote will matter in the naming of the next SCOTUS Justice.

If they go full retard now that just works in our favor. More chances for more mistakes and more stupid pronouncements from Pelosi and others.

One sound think we would want as much of that as possible

Agree that we need ACB to replace Rue Theta BigTurd as soon as legally possible. The only possible reason I can fathom is that McConnel wants to keep the appearance of a 'normal' process as much as possible.

Several online sources all say that the schedule being given to Senators is for the hearings to start on Oct 12 and end on Oct 15 with the vote shortly after.

The sooner the better. I know some say that extending it will put the democrats insanity on full display right before the election, but I am in the 'get it done now' camp.

I'm in the 'hold the vote Monday' crowd. It's exactly what they would do.

Well hell, I didn't realize that early voting was this fucked-up. I see your point.

I should have been more clear, I should have stated it more like BamaJeepster pointed out about McConnel's possible strategy.

Why not confirm right away?

a) Maybe to serve as the bright shiny object to keep the media and Dems occupied, while Trump & Co. focus on something else? Or to keep the Dems occupied from working on something else?

b) What are the downsides to confirming right away? If confirmed right away, the media and Dems will need to find something else to scream and cry about till Nov 3, or make up more fake shit about Trump.

That has been something I’ve been thinking about ever since Ginsberg’s death was announced and the Left started raising so many complaints about the replacement process. Despite the never-ending descriptions of many of them as “RINOs,” for some reason there seems to be a tendency to also believe the totally contrary and unsubstantiated idea that all Republican senators’ only thoughts and hopes about this issue are that a conservative will be appointed to the Court. I believe that belief is unjustified.

I suspect that many senators have doubts that 1. the Republican landslide that the faithful are so confident of will occur, and 2. their own reelections now or in the future are assured. I believe they fear that because there is so much controversy about the confirmation process—regardless of how valid that may be—anything such as a rushed vote that supports the idea that it is in fact not valid, or is at least underhandedly inappropriate, will reflect badly on those who approve the confirmation. By waiting at least a few weeks for the vote, anyone who fears that impression will be able to say, “No: We weren’t stampeded into a vote and gave proper consideration to due process.” I further suspect that many would be happier if the vote were delayed until after the election so that how they voted wouldn’t affect their own reelection chances. Delaying the vote a few weeks may be a compromise that, like most compromises, truly satisfies no one, but is the best that could be hammered out.

I agree. McConnell could call the vote on Monday.
But, alas, we will have hearings.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

I suspect the "strategy" is to schedule the vote at the last minute. Then Democrats will be "allowed" to delay the vote. Oops... Elections here, no more time.

It's all a game our political overlords play with us.

How much ya wanna bet that Collins, Murkowski, Gardner, Romney, and a couple other squishy Repubs have told McConnell that if a regular hearing and process is maintained (i.e. don't stir the pot any more than necessary), they'll fall in line at the end to vote in favor. I think if we had 51 votes locked up on this and functioning with a backbone, we'd see a vote next week (as we should). Personally, I'd like to see Barret spared the BS the Dem's are gonna pull on this nomination.
