There is video, albeit distant, of the shooting. You can hear the chemical spray and a simultaneous gunshot. No way this guy didn't have his gun drawn and leveled at the victim when the victim fired his chemical.

Yes, lots of stupid going on. But the two videos, the victim walked away. He had no lethal weapon in his hand. And slapped the shooter away after the shooter made contact with him. You can see the shooter and his Denver 9News partner still in stride.

Getting the scoop isn't so important that you have the interject yourself into a close, volatile situation.

The shooter, identified as Matthew Dolloff, has been charged with first degree murder in the shooting of the Patriot Prayer demonstrator at the Denver Civic Center on Saturday. He has been booked into the Denver jail system.




The private security guard in custody was contracted through Pinkerton by 9NEWS. It has been the practice of 9NEWS for a number of months to contract private security to accompany staff at protests.

DPD originally took two people into custody and later found the second individual, a 9NEWS producer who works in the investigative unit, was not involved in the incident. The producer is no longer in police custody and is not a suspect. -9News

Apparently the shooter had a lot of anti Trump social media. I'm curious if he really worked for the Pinkerton's (I'll be honest I didn't even know the Pinkerton's still existed).

I believe he'll be going away for a long time. This is a post of the name I'm seeing reported.

Note in the audio it did sound like he racked the pistol, then the mace went off, then the round was fired.

Can the Denver DA be trusted to be objective ? I don’t know the local political lay of the land there.

Assuming he is right handed, because he's holding the spray in his right hand, that picture doesn't do shit to determine if he has a pistol or not. Could easily be a pistol under his vest, but it doesn't matter if he did or not, because it obviously didn't come into play when he was shot.

I don’t attempt to follow such things, but I find it encouraging that at least the killer was charged with that crime. In other jurisdictions it might not have been possible to ignore the crime, but I wouldn’t have been surprised for a lesser charge to have been filed. I wouldn't be surprised if the second pistol was originally carried by the producer in the light blue shirt. But we won't know until the dust settles.

As for the origins of 'Mozambique', I've heard a lot of stories (the oldest involving the SAS, FALs and unarmored but apparently motivated hostiles) but I don't know that anyone has managed to document where that came from.

Pinkerton is alive and well, most of their work is done for insurance companies dealing with fraud and internal corporate theft. Not unusual for their investigators doing stake-outs on people making questionable medical disability claims or, a mid-sized business suspecting their warehouse manager of creating false delivery manifests and such.

^^ Yeah, so far it's "Anqueefa With A Gun" 2, "Pro-America Demonstrators With Bear Spray" 0. Obviously the greater point is to not find one's self in that position, but if one is in that position then the track record that's developing suggests a gun is a better option than using bear spray in the hopes that there'll somehow be an orderly progression up the scale to the use of deadly force.

Y'know, I kinda wonder whether the news channel didn't specifically want someone with video arcade boy's predilictions. I mean, if he's Anqueefa or sympathetic, then he should be able to convince the Anqueefa rioters to leave the camera crew alone. The demonstrators on the other side don't really have a record of jacking with 'established' media like a local TV station news crew.
