I agree with prefontaine, that we are not seeing any shift towards disapproval of adultery. Any disapproval we are seeing is from a shrinking portion of adults who disapprove, along with the gleeful nasty internet piling on.

In fact, I think it is a window into the increase in how many people get joy from making other people unhappy.

Studies, while far from decisive, have shown a fairly consistent rate of marital infidelity over the past number of decades. About 1 in every 3 men and women. While this isn't a direct measurement of approval, it seems to me it indicates no increase in disapproval.

I stopped browsing the topic 9 years ago upon separating from my now ex, but my sense from dating and also watching my adult children's generation is that acceptance of non-monogamous relationships and promiscuity is on the increase.

In short, I think we are following Britain towards fewer traditional and faithful marriages.

Now she's gone. Must have taken her longer to negotiate her severance payout.

Friends and I have talked about this for years, saying, "HR is all about the R, none about the H."
I prefer to describe them with the phrase "Two lies in 1 title" as they're neither human nor a resource.

Every 7 OR 8 years, I come across a good one but 90% of the time it's someone not smart enough or ambitious enough to work for the TSA.

HR is only interested in one thing,

and that is getting more control and hiring more people for HR

I've heard it suggested that a driver's license should be for life, and a marriage license should be renewed - or not - every four years.

Makes more sense to me that way.

Not a bad idea. That way, people can really reflect on what they want. Hmm

Early in my career, I heard the phrase “Never dip your pen in the company well and don’t get your butter from the same place you get your bread.”

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

You want to hear a good one about HR?

I was talking to my HR guy late last year asking about the upcoming annual enrollment and if there were any changes I needed to be aware of.

I more or less told him I though our company's health coverage was shit for such a large company, it's a HDHP and we pay a LOT in premiums just to have it then get socked with large bills each time we do use it. Everyone who has a spouse that can get coverage through their job does it that way as the plans are usually far better and cheaper.

I told him that all these large bills for going to doctors and specialists was a financial burden to us especially with me being the sole breadwinner and my wife being a stay at home homeschool Mom. He admitted that it's not great and he doesn't even use what is offered, he's retired AF so he's got TRICARE. I just shook my head and walked away. The HR guy doesn't even use what is offered for health coverage that's how crap it is. Frown Mad

Hmmm, Marriage is a Sacrament (at least in the Catholic Church) and a life-long commitment to your spouse...'Til Death Do Us Part!

Honestly while our culture/society has degraded significantly on MANY moral issues including this one, this would be a step wrong direction, and in effect codify such moral degradation even more so. People are supposed to reflect on what they 'really' want BEFORE they get married, NOT during their marriage!

That said, perhaps the comments quoted were a bit 'tongue in cheek', so if that's the case, instead of calling it a Marriage License, maybe it should be called a 'Shack Up Certificate'! Wink

That is basically goverment insurance not like blue cross for Federal employees. Many doctors have not been paid in SIX months and are not acceping new Tricare patients. Additionally their allowable rates are well below what other insurances pay. So you get the last laugh.

As a rule Blue Cross Blue shield Federal is a premium plan.

That’s fine. Everyone is entitled to have their own belief system. Mine is thus..God is the judge and jury. Out of context or not, that is what I believe and how I live my life. The internet court, the court of public opinion, doesn’t really mean shit to me. God forgives. It’s a damn shame that most people do not. Everyone makes mistakes. Everyone fails. Thank God almighty that he forgives and his son gave away his life for us, to be forgiven. So to see people getting off at someone else’s misery, IMO, well they certainly aren’t acting like good Christian folk. There is more uproar over this stupid nonsense than actual crimes being committed in society. Think of these innocent children involved in this. You sending memes, texts, well that is your sin, and you are putting it on those kids backs. People need to get a life and move on. I’ll leave the judging to God. That’s his business, not ours.

What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone
