It was -57 real temp at work this morning. 20-25mph winds. Wind chill around -100. In fairness I'm up in Alaska. It gets cold every winter, but haven't seen it this bad in close to 20 years.

In 1978 I walked across the frozen Ohio River in Cincinnati.
I have one inch of snow in my front yard, can somebody please come and save me?

it's warm here compared to some of you, it's a balmy -5! Almost shorts and T shirt weather.
Midway Airport area, Chicago.

I am so jealous! Right now, it's -8, winds at the Davenport Airport are from the WNW at 25 MPH gusting to 45 MPH. On the bright side, yesterday we only got maybe 3" of snow that will blow around for several more days.

Why yes, staying home would be smart, but again today I volunteered to hit the road (Jack!) for the Sheriff's Dept assisting stranded motorists.

We had about 4" of snow yesterday, then rain, so we have a sloppy mess laying around. The extreme cold from the west is just getting here now. The temp was 34 degrees at midnight when I went to bed, and that's supposed to be the HIGH for the day. The temp's dropping steadily & is supposed to be sub-zero by this afternoon.

It's 3 degrees with a 20-30mph winds here this morning. The media has sensationalized the storm with "Once in a generation storm, DON'T TRAVEL!" warnings. We got a couple inches of snow last night, and the forecast is for a couple inches each for the next two days. Once in a generation my ass.

It's 50 degrees here, windy and raining for the time being.
It's supposed to drop to 20 degrees tonight and everything will freeze.

I just came in from cleaning up all the dead branches that came down from the wind before they freeze to the ground.

Then, it's supposed to be 50 again next weekend.

Thus far, the bomb cyclone had been kind of a dud.
Light snow overnight adding a couple of inches to what was already on the ground. Breezy. No snow right now and the sun is trying to break through the cloud cover.

Indianapolis got down to 9 below zero earlier today. That's a 50 degree drop from 40 or so yesterday afternoon.

Snow is dry and dusty and less than an inch, roads and driveways are not fully covered.

Forecast says back in the 40's by Wednesday, climbing about 5-10 degrees a day until then.

Power and Heat (natural gas) are OK, Cable/Internet went out. Hotspotted my phone just to come here. Smile

Well, the chickens are making it through just fine with a heat lamp, but the pipes in the shop froze. Cranked the heat up to 70 out there so hopefully they'll thaw out without any damage.

Note to self: Next time you build a shop, don't put the plumbing in an exterior wall. Usually just keeping it at around 45 in there is good enough to keep this from happening, but it got a little too cold for that.

Now I don’t feel so bad. But it was 106 last summer and our summers are always 100 + high humidity so cold is relative to what your summers are in terms of tolerance. At 7 degrees last night it felt like -57 to me here. I went to the gym last night and it was my longest workout of the week per usual. 1.5 hours on weights, then an hour of cardio. I barely sweated. Remote started the truck (timer is 10 minutes, so if you don’t get in and press start in 10 minutes it shuts back off) and 10 minutes later the engine still wasn’t warmed up. It’s fucked here until Monday/Tuesday and it’ll be like 68 degrees in 6 days. But it sucks right now.

Stay safe akcop. I guess I’m a big pussy because I could not live where you live, I hate the winter. It’s these 100 degree 90% humidity summers I’ve dealt with my whole life.

Jealous? Why? We got the same weather you got about 2 hours later!
Wind (the Hawk!) has been whipping around all night & day, 3-4 inches of snow blowing around. Try to shovel it, and it comes back about an hour later. Not as bad as yesterday, it's +3 now! Slowing warming up this week, New Years is supposed to be 40-45 ish and raining. I know eventually it's going to drop to -0 again...
