Player Piano by Kurt Vonnegut. I read it back in the 1970's. It’s about computers and machines taking over the world and putting people out of work if I remember correctly.

Voltaire's Candide for the sheer absurdity of life.

And MacBeth in the original Klingon.

The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. People again must learn to work, instead of living on public assistance. ~ Cicero 55 BC

I recently had that experience with a tv series. JK Simmons starred as a man who passed thru to a parallel world experienced severe loss of freedom due to a viral pandemic. It was only slightly more extreme than our recent "lockdown" situation, but was made in 2016. I had to stop watching it.

Read the Alex Fletcher boxset a few months ago. Survival fiction based on a flu pandemic that I thought was strangely familiar to current events.
