I was a scout. I would love my son to enjoy what I did. But the BSA is no longer what it was.

I have gone out of my way to teach him the things I learned, like how to make fire, being polite, how to use an ax, etc…after the BS with allowing girls I saw the writing on the wall.

One of my regrets was not getting my eagle, I got a car when I was 16 and sidetracked by girls and never finished it.

Actions speak louder than any words. Cute acronyms and catchy slogans mean crap, as far as I'm concerned. Every other organization you see these days, "Hey everyone, look at us, we're DIEB, too!".

I joined the Cub Scouts in 1963 and progressed through Boy Scouts and Explorers until about 1970 when cars and girls became more important. Scouts gave me the opportunity to do things that I would not have otherwise experienced. Shooting a .22, swimming, boating, all manner of woodcraft and knots. All of which I have used throughout my life.

More important, scouting, along with good parents and religion, the helped me grow up and maintain an honorable path through life.

The scouting I knew meant hard work, sometimes being cold or uncomfortable, learning how to solve problems and teamwork. I am saddened to see what BSA has become.

Let me help you out. Which way did you come in?

My 9yo recently wanted to join scouts again, we have a 2 year break due to my work taking me away from home.

It's been said before, it's all down to the local pack/troop at least at the Weblos / Cub Scout level. We have 2 local packs, one is co-ed and one is just boys. We joined the one for boys only and while on the national level BSA might embrace DIE (prefer this order) all I see is boys being boys and the local leadership is the same as it was back in my day.

Recently at a camp out we had a flag retiring ceremony, as one of the few Vets in attendance I was asked to participate. During the ceremony many of the younger scouts were quite upset about burning the retired flags as they did not understand flag code.

All in all it has been a good experience, we have another camp out this weekend and I am sure it will the same....boys being boys (picture Lord of the fly's with flashlights? Big Grin) and not caring wit about race, color or creed....as it should be.

YMMV

As a side note, kids don't give a shit about others being "different" than they are until they are taught to care by adults.

This is one of the many reasons the thought of DI&E and CRT make me seethe.

Any program that teaches being colorblind is racist and truly fucked up not to mention totally against what Dr. King taught and should be put down like a rabid animal. And those who embrace it do so for their own profit and want to destroy the US and those of us that will not embrace their socialist/globalist agenda.

God forbid we just teach the boys critical thinking, real life skills and how to just treat each individual with respect/tolerance (until they show they deserve neither).

To quote Dennis Prager, “Everything the Left touches, it destroys”.

"If you’re a leader, you lead the way. Not just on the easy ones; you take the tough ones too…” – MAJ Richard D. Winters (1918-2011), E Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne

"Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil... Therefore, as tongues of fire lick up straw and as dry grass sinks down in the flames, so their roots will decay and their flowers blow away like dust; for they have rejected the law of the Lord Almighty and spurned the word of the Holy One of Israel." - Isaiah 5:20,24

Local kid in Town was working towards his Eagle Scout status. (or whatever you call it).

We have an old overgrown 1/4 mile observation trail with a broken sign that an Eagle Scout built 15 years ago on my road.

This local kid got permission from the Town to restore everything to earn one of his badges.

He shows up with his dad, grabs the sign, and returns it a week later with a fresh coat of paint. Nothing else. No trail maintenance. No rotten sign post replacement, nothing else. I am not even sure who verifies this stuff from the BSA but I doubt anyone does.

My wifes company hired a "Chief Diversity and Inclusion officer" or whatever the hell she is called. Basically a black woman that is given free reign to go around calling all the white people racist and given power to "make changes."

Used to be that every few years the employees would get a refresher course on race, race relations, inclusion. Now? It's weekly. Yes, weekly zoom chats. Where white people are expected to talk about their "privilege" and what they are doing about it.

They used to have zoom "rooms" with all employees. But now? No shit, they segregate them. My wife showed me her screen, and they now have special zoom rooms for "people of color only" and "white people only".

Back of the bus, honkeys.

Its complete utter nonsense. The CEO and leaders allow it. After all, they wouldn't dare put a stop to it and be thus be called a racist.

You know, when I was a Scout we actually worked for real practical badges and gee we included everybody and treated everybody the same. Black, Hispanic, Asian etc. and we didn’t need a God damn badge for it!! Ok well everybody but girls but at least early on they were “icky” and besides they had their own group. Smile

I’m gonna go look at pictures of folks guns and groups now.

Dewhorse. Thank you for making a difference and having a positive impact on those young boys. That means a lot. Also, thanks for your service.
And lastly thanks for your last paragraph. Spot on. Much respect.

I'm an Eagle Scout, and being in the Boy Scouts is one of the many factors I credit with making me into the successful man I am today. Seeing the changes to BSA over the last 10-15 years has been sad for me, and I would not allow my children to participate in the organization as it stands today. My brother did not get his Eagle, but Boy Scouts played a major role into turning him into the man he is as well. His children are not Scouts, he can't see much value in the organization as it currently exists either.

I would say BSA needs to get back to orienteering, but it appears they lost their compass some time ago. I understand there are still many really good troops out there, but the overall leadership of the organization as a whole is no longer consistent with turning boys (and girls now- although I don't have a problem with the way they did that at least) into strong, capable adults.

"The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people."
"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."
"I did," said Ford, "it is."
"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?"
"It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want."
"You mean they actually vote for the lizards."
"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."
"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"
"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

DE&I is part of the professional, political, and community landscape. You can't stop it, it's already here. You may believe much of it is touchy feely nonsense, that some of it is coddling sensitive snowflakes for no reason, or whatever your objection may be...but it doesn't change that fact that every young person should be fluent in the language of DE&I and familiar with the concepts.

I'm an Eagle Scout, and I believe that Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion is perfectly aligned with the Scouting values. I have Scouting handbooks that are three decades old that push diversity and equality.
I can't even imagine what's going through your mind. The Boy Scouts should be ONLY BOYS (why in the world does this even need to be pointed out??) and they should have NOTHING to do with pushing identity politics on young men. Good God, man! You're a long-time member of this forum and I like you, but for God's sake, you are out of your mind on this. I mean it. You are out of your mind.

No, you're voicing the batshit-crazy-leftist-brainwashing-children opinion. "Unpopular"? No, man, no. That's like saying genital herpes is unpopular; "unpopular" doesn't even begin to cover it.

Reread please…

It’s EQUITY they phrase, not equality.

Vast difference in what these mean from todays progressives.

Equity is the gateway drug to critical race theory.

Leave these boys and young men alone. Let their parents teach them what they wish to teach them, and let these boys and young men develop their own sense of what is appropriate correct in this respect. So wrong, so completely, utterly, shamefully wrong.

Child abuse, is what it is.
