Karen is baaaaaack. Now, with her list. ![]() The Void (2016) - This is just a B movie, but man, it’s pretty well done, imo. Just creepy. At first, you thought it was just some slasher cult movie, but it turned out to be some weird alien shit from another dimension (call it hell, if you will). A cannot not watch movie, despite having seen it many many times. The Ten Commandments (1956) - Seen it hundreds of times and never tired of it. We already know the storyline, but the acting, the wonders just made it irresistible. I’m never tired of the parting of the Red Sea, a seventy-year-old special effect that still looks real to this day. Jesus of Nazareth (1977 two-part TV movie) - The best Jesus movie of them all. Robert Powell was amazing in the lead role, and the rest of the ensemble cast were superb. The Longest Day (1962) - Best war movie ever made, imo. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954) - Great fun movie/musical. The incredible barn dance sequence is a guarantee to put a smile on your face. If it doesn’t, then you’re a corpse. It’s interesting to note that, in the present day woke culture, this movie would never have been made. Train To Busan (2016) - Best zombie movie ever. Right after typing this post, I was telling Mrs Q if she remembers The Void, and before we knew it, we were watching it again, for the gazillionth time. ![]() Q

You are no idiot. Rather, you are what makes SIGforum such a great place. As the moderator you set the example by calling out your own mistake and offering an apology. A terrific example of how we should all behave in our discussions both on the inter webs and in person.

A coworker used to swear when he was a kid and his mama found a dead chicken she would always yell, “Buddy!” I don’t know if he was really boinking the chickens, but damn it was a funny story. If we’re all being honest, and we had network cable in the 2000s, then Con-Air and The Quick and the Dead are our “cannot not watch” contenders, they were on 3x a week. 10 years to retirement! Just waiting!

Sorry, boinking the chickens. He swore his mama yelled at him every time he got hold of another chicken. Not insinuating I swear, your comment just made me laugh about it. 10 years to retirement! Just waiting!

Good choices. Re: Sometimes A Great Notion, have you read the book? It is outstanding. They made a pretty good movie out of it, but Kesey's novel is masterful.

There are two categories of "can't not watch" movies. The first is odd or quirky, but once you start watching them you can't leave your seat. The second is movies that, when you see them come on the TV, you have to drop whatever you were doing to sit down and see them, even if you've seen them multiple times before. In the first column: Pulp Fiction and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. In the second (more extensive and numerous), off the top of my head, are: Any of the first three Star Wars Die Hard (even with the censoring) Forbidden Planet (this one seems to come up a lot) Them! (1954, giant irradiated ants, very well written and acted) King Kong (1933 original) Where Eagles Dare (never mind the preposterous plot, it's got Clint Eastwood dual-wielding MP40s!) The War of the Worlds (1953) The Time Machine (1960) Falling Down Gran Torino Last week (I think it was last Sunday), TCM ran Them!, Forbidden Planet and King Kong back to back in a single day. Needless to say, I didn't get anything done that day. ![]()
